    CI's and the NAD convention

On the contrary, some schools pay for students to go home, which would cost the school more money than feeding them, I'd imagine. I don't know how common this is, but a friend of mine was from Ohio and went to MSSD, and they paid for him to fly home for holidays and for weekends whenever he...

    Is Islam a Threat?

:topic: What ever happened to the idea that perhaps different approaches to religion are appropriate for different people? Or, at the very least, that we can accept that not everyone follows the same set of beliefs, and that we should accept that?

    Books about deafness & CI

I stand by my previous assertion that they're merely attempting to start fights on campus. :)

    Books about deafness & CI

Can you remember off-hand if she signs? My first instincts say no, but I can't remember for sure. Both the real Sue Thomas and the woman who portrays her on TV, Deanne Bray, were at an event I attended in Chicago a few years back. I was surprised to discovere that Deanne Bray uses ASL as...

Don’t Let The ACLU Remove The Crosses From Federal Cemeteries

Agreed! If someone has an issue with a cross being put up, they have every right to have it removed. However, denying all families the right to have crosses marking their loved ones' graves is just silly.

    CI's and the NAD convention

That's not an entirely new thing, actually. In 2002 the convention was held at Gallaudet, and I remember them having a booth as well. Couldn't tell you which company it was, but they were there. It is nice to see things changing, and people becoming more open-minded.

    Gallaudet University's Hearing Undergraduate program

The graduate program actually has more hearing students than deaf students, according to their enrollment statistics for the last several years. Couldn't tell you much more than that. :)

ASL Video Clip about the Internet video clips Without Subtitles

That's EXACTLY what happens at my job. Our deaf TA is more of a teacher than our actual teachers are. In fact, one of our teachers (a nice, but incredibly lazy woman) actually had the TA teach several of her classes.

    Bluetooth enabled TTY?

I bought that one for my work not too long ago. I like it- It's easy to use and compact, which is always a plus on a messy teacher's desk. :)

    Gallaudet University's Hearing Undergraduate program

I'm on a personal quest to up the enrollment. I'm doing what I can. :)

    Gallaudet University's Hearing Undergraduate program

The hearing people are taking over! Damn those audist hearing people who think they can go to Gallaudet... Oh wait... At any rate, that's awesome for your friend! If I end up majoring in education I'm planning on their 5 year program. With that you get a bachelor's in regular education and...

    Gallaudet University's Hearing Undergraduate program

I know. :) I'm just pointing out that it's a very pricey university.

Yes, yes it does! *runs and hides*

    Gallaudet University's Hearing Undergraduate program

Personally, I'd find a better way to spend $24,000/year. It's AWESOME that you want to learn ASL, but if you aren't planning on using it daily, there really isn't much of a reason to spend that much money.

    Is Islam a Threat?

That icon reminds me of a song by Holly Near... I ain't afraid of your Yahweh I ain't afraid of your Allah I ain't afraid of your Jesus I'm afraid of what you do in the name of your God I ain't afraid of your churches I ain't afraid of your temples I ain't afraid of your praying I'm...

So let's say all deaf people had cochlear implants for a change...

Point well taken! I hearby retract my previous statement!

    Gallaudet University's Hearing Undergraduate program

I don't think you have to, necessarily, but people would certainly questions your motives for choosing Gallaudet. Why go to Gallaudet if you don't plan in working in a deaf-related field? You can major in sociology anywhere. Admissions would probably give you a hard time.

So let's say all deaf people had cochlear implants for a change...

Yes, of course, but there are many others who don't. Imagine how much less drama there would be...

ASL Video Clip about the Internet video clips Without Subtitles

I mean deaf educators who are completely inept signers. I work with two women who readily admit that they can't sign for shit, but they feel that they're capable of instructing deaf, ASL-using students.

    Gallaudet University's Hearing Undergraduate program

Agreed. They're really good with setting up tours and meetings with representatives from different departments/offices. I think everyone should go there for a visit, especially those with friends entering in the fall.
