I am feeling like my brain is a pinball machine.

I guess we live in the same place then, people here behave the same way. This brings me to despair because I believe deafness can kind of "disappear" when you are with people who can empathise with you. Just, I haven't found any of those people yet.

I too am pondering whether to learn ASL or not, and I too live in a very small town, and guess what? My very - small - town isn't even in America! :lol: Communicating is a struggle.

If you don't mind me asking, were you hearing in the past? How come you can speak clearly and some (most, I guess...) of us can't?

I don't know if this has been asked before. I noticed there is a HUGE percentage of hearing members on this forum, and there's in many posts a perpetuous asking about one's hearing status; many chose to clarify about them being Deaf/HoH/Hearing in their signature. I was asking myself, why is...

Well, it's not that you have to be one of anything, it's just that you MUST be either deaf, or hard of hearing, or hearing. No escape from this! :lol:

My comment won't be helpful at all but I just wanted to let you know that I often wonder the very same thing. I mean, would I be able to speak better if I found somebody who was competent and capable of giving me the right tips? As for me, when people don't understand me I just try and speak...

I see, you are HoH and therefore you are part of both (and neither) worlds. I am completely deaf but I grew up as a hearing person and feel the same as you :)

I wonder, how do your countries do as for captions? Are they common enough? Are they accurate and punctual? When traveling to London, I was surprised to discover that even TV commercials were captioned! Here in Italy you don't see subtitled advertisements.

This is tragic and it hurts me to read that it is the same sh..story everywhere. The feeling of being there and knowing not what to do whilst people around you are hanging out is indescribable. And, to add injury to insult, they will often say that YOU are asocial and unfriendly. Gosh, I think...
