Did you wear body aid while young?

I used a TELEX FM microphone/receiver body aid in class, from mid-late 1980s until I graduated high school in 1995. Outside of class, I used behind-the-hear hearing aids. In the early 1980s, I used a different FM microphone/receiver body aid in class, but I don't remember the brand. It was a...

Something that TOTALLY turns the theory of auditory verbal therapy on its head

I couldn't imagine doing that. I have to lipread. They actually make deaf/hoh kids try to understand without lipreading? *smh*

Should we lower the price of U.S. passports?

When I got my passport, I thought the cost was reasonable. If I remember, it was about $150. The idea of booking passage on a cargo vessel for half that amount sounds interesting.

I need a quick help on police calls.

If your town has an anti-solicitation law, you could call the regular police number (not the emergency number) to report a violation. Assuming that you warned the violator that you do not want them visiting again. The police would simply record details of the incident. If it happens again...

Went to RIT Open House 12/7/12

I keep bouncing back between going and not going. It's a big move, and it would be a very different experience for me. I just need to keep moving along with the process and see if it works out.

    Deaf Dating Sites?

Rochester, NY is apparently THE largest deaf/hoh community in the United States, outside of the university environment. So I imagine there has to be some resources up there to find others closer to your age group, off-campus probably.

    Rochester Institute of Technology [2013-2014]

I'm thinking about going to RIT this fall, and I'll by 36 by the time I go. I, too, wish I had known about RIT right after high school. Just trying to figure out my path from now on.

Applying to college. If I am deaf, what can I do? How can I get interpreters?

If it's a hearing school, make sure that the accommodations are as good as they say. Watch an interpreter in action in a classroom for another deaf student. Check the captioning to make sure it is word-for-word, and also includes the student discussions. RIT/NTID, for example, does all this well.

Have you ever tried to wear CI or HA when you are sleeping in bed?

I don't wear my hearing aids to bed. I tried once, but it was just a lot of feedback.

    I would love some advice..

My suggestion is to get thee posthaste to National Technical Institute for the Deaf. It's a college of Rochester Institute of Technology. I visited an Open House there Dec '12, and I'm planning on attending. You want an accessable education? NTID. You do not have to know ASL to take...

    Observations

I sympathize. It definitely sucks when you can't follow the conversation. With me, forget it if there's a group of people talking. One-on-one, I have a better chance of understanding someone speaking. (Not guaranteed, though.) What kind of hearing loss do you have? Is it moderate...
