    Want a hearing friend?

I'm hard of hearing. I am, indeed, a fan of Paul Oakenfold. He's supposed to perform at the House of Blues in Chicago, November 19th. Idk if there are tickets still available... Although, it would be a fun show to attend. I'm hoping to finally catch Crystal Method the next time they come...

Mom outraged at school program providing birth control for daughter

It was more of a Health class than a sex ed class. The two days that was used to cover sex, basically briefly covered the dangers of contracting STD's and the different form of protection and where you can get it. As well as the famale/male anatomy and how a female gets pregnant. Mind you...

    HA Help Please

Oh, I looked like a complete dork when I played soccer. But eventually it became a trendsetter. So maybe that will happen for you? I took them off just because I had already broken them twice and the insurance company was getting pissed off (as well as my parents wallet). Good thing...

    Do people understand you?

My parents kind of have this mentality that my hearing loss can be fixed with CI and don't understand the risks involved. In other words, they look at the positive aspects of how to 'fix' my hearing loss, but don't take into consideration of all potential outcomes. Needless to say, my parents...

    Hearing peeves of deaf people

Agreed. Ever since my first job in the video store, i cant be bothered with regular telly. Every time the commercial comes on, I walk off to do something that I forget the telly is still on. It probably takes me a week to get through 2 hours of telly.

    Hearing peeves of deaf people

Although some companies like having those who have a disability for tax-deductions, increase in bonuses, etc. (An example would be) Advance autopart managers get bonuses with minorities and employing those who have a disability. The engineering company that I work for now gets tax deductions...

    HA Help Please

When I played soccer in high school.. my hearing aid used to fall out all the time. So I started wearing a bandanna tied around my head and covering my ears. It was very 80s but it worked. At least.. until i got hit on the side of the head with the ball one too many times that I stopped...

Mom outraged at school program providing birth control for daughter

I think its extremely wrong for officials to take students off campus to anywhere without explicit permission from the parents. However, the one thing I do wish that my high school had was better education about sex, pregnancy and preventative measures (protection, birth control, abstinence...

Deaf vs. HOH/deaf oralist: What would you do when...

With the deaf group that I typically go out with around here (there's 4 of us usually), somehow over the years I've become the interpreter/spokesperson of the group. I'm not quite sure how it happened, but I never make it a point to order for them. I'll tell them what the waiter/waitress said...

is it normal for deaf people to worry about this?

My mum's side of the family are all from England. They were extremely meticulous about my pronunciation and enunciation. Especially my grandmother. She got pissy with me whenever I was dropping letters at the end of words. But now, I'm extremely grateful for their nitpicking on my speech...

    Deaf Drivers in the World

I wasn't planning on getting my drivers license right away, didn't really see the point. However, my parents got tired of driving me around, so I had to go get my license. I've put 80k + miles on my current car and I've had her for 3.5 years. Of everyone in my family.. I'm the only one who...

I have problem at job. Any deafies here cashier?

There's one deaf employee at the Target in Rockford, IL. She worked at another one somewhere in the suburbs of Chicago. She had a white dry erase board by her, stating her name, that she was deaf, fluent in sign language and had another white board besides her for communication. I thought...

Are you the only or the first deaf person in ur entire family?

Wirelessly posted I'm the only person on both sides of the family to have a severe hearing loss (spinal meningitis at 8 months old). There was on relative who had hearing loss due to old age, but she passed away years ago...other than that, nothing.
