Please help me make choices : )

Wow, Friday was a trip! I wore the HA all day and it was crazy. I could hear my co-workers speaking clearly (this was good!) supervisor tapping her fingers, ceiling fans running, dogs barking, chainsaws, car brakes squealing (I work mostly outside). I was so tired by the end of the day...

Please help me make choices : )

I haven't worn a hearing aid before, this is my first one. I wonder if I should have it adjusted. It sounds kind of like a microphone at higher tones. I'm wearing it to work today-a real test run (yesterday was my day off) and I'll see how it goes.

    Adjustment to late onset deafness

I just got my HA on today. I posted in the HA forum that it sounds weird and I guess I'll have to get used to it. On the other hand, I stopped at Wendy's on the way home to grab lunch and had no problem ordering at the drive-thru. Usually, I can't really understand what they are saying in those...

Please help me make choices : )

Well, I just got the HA this morning...I'm not sure how I feel about it. I'm not used to the noise. When I had the car radio on (coming home) it sounded tinny at high sounds. It's supposed to take getting used to, right? I actually have it out at the moment, because my ds is watching tv...

    Hearing Aid "Jewelry"

Would the little neoprene EarGears cover up the microphone pickups and dull the sound? I am awaiting my HA, a Rexton Cobalt, and I want to protect that expensive little thing : ) especially with working outside, but does a cover affect the HA's performance? Just asking before I spend more $, lol.

    Hearing Aid complaints

In my little journey into hearing aid(s) purchase so far, I have been suprised that it is somewhat like buying a car or furniture-rather than a medical device. I found wildly ranging prices for similar styles. This was a suprise to me. No one shops around for, say, a pacemaker or artificial...

How many people here are NOT deaf?

I like that too! :giggle: I guess I'd be considered HOH (left ear). My sort of loss (otosclerosis) is progressive, but I'm told it could be many years before I lose all my hearing. I don't know any deaf/Deaf people IRL, and didn't even know I had it until this past Feb.

    Adjustment to late onset deafness

Hi everyone  (I posted this in the HA forum too and copied here since I gotta run to work soon!) I had posted that I was considering a HA and was going to Costco to price them-but those posts got eaten . I went on Thursday. They have the little soundproof booth plopped right...

Please help me make choices : )

Somewhere in here, my posts about making an appt at Costco hearing aid center disappeared! Anyhow-I went on Thursday. They have the little soundproof booth plopped right down in the store by the tv's. lol. The audi was a nice younger lady, who is non-comminsioned, meaning she works for Costco...

Is it a good brand and price? I see a lot of people here mention 'Phonak'. Thank you, Bottsini : ) I appreciate the replies, and will check back later, as I have to run now.

Marlee Matlin launches reality series on YouTube

A lot of the reality shows have a lot of spoken narration and subtitles use (LPBW and 19 Kids and Counting do), so I think this show could fit in well.

Please help me make choices : )

The brochure says the S Series 9 (active). The audi says it can be reprogrammed as my hearing diminishes. I'm still struggling on an emotional level with that, just typing it is tough : ( I think it's why I can't seem to decide. I know many folks here have much more severe loss and...

    Adjustment to late onset deafness

I keep having to remind the kids, one talk at a time! Because when there is backround noise, everything sounds to me like mmmrrrmrrrrrrrrmrrrrrrrrr. They need to learn to take turns talking anyways, lol!

Please help me make choices : )

Hello, I figured there is a wealth of experience here to tap! I'm trying to decide whether to get a hearing aid, and wondering if I'm getting taken for too much $ on one. I have otosclerosis, and tinnitus, in my left ear and my hearing is significantly diminished in the mid-low...

Marlee Matlin launches reality series on YouTube

I watched the youtube from the link in the other thread, and I'm shocked TLC didn't take this show up-I watch TLC a lot and I loved the pilot. I think it would be a great fit, and I really liked the family.

Wow, that was neat! I liked that family. I think it would make a great show for TLC-my family would watch!

    A Dose Of Realty

Chucky, what about something like diesel mechanic, or auto body? Training for that is often available at vo-tech schools, and I don't think they are as hearing-dependent as the DOT job was.

    Adjustment to late onset deafness

Hi, I'm new here and just posted an intro in the intro thread. I'm 38, just diagnosed with otosclerosis and conductive hearing loss, and tinnitus. I have very mild loss in my right ear, and significant loss (mid and low tone) and tinnitus in the left. My ENT recommended a hearing aid, and I...

    For Late-deafened

I have otosclerosis ( I posted an intro in the intro thread today) and I was wondering if anyone else here has it? I have not met anyone IRL who does. I am 38 and was just diagnosed-although I suspect it started a couple years ago. From my research, I realize that it will progress and I will...

Newly HOH and new to AllDeaf-Hi!

Hello all! I am 38 years old, and was, last month, diagnosed with otosclerosis, conductive hearing loss, and neuralgis. With tinnitus in the left ear. It was a bit of a shock, as I had gone to my ENT thinking I had an infection or some fluid . It is a mild to moderate hearing...
