I think my dad got taken grrr...

I tried to get him to go to Costco, told him the hearing test is free and he could still see his audi at 'Brandname hearing loss center' if he wanted to...but he said he has gone to that guy for years and the guy 'knows' him. I think he got a hard sell, and he showed me his new HA's the other...

Kids after 18 years old at home / empty nests in parenting

This is something we are encouraging. I also told them that it should be warm, too, and then dh and I will follow them when we retire :giggle: My state has a documented 'brain-drain'-the educated young people tend to not stay.

Kids after 18 years old at home / empty nests in parenting

All my kids are welcome to live at home as long as they wish-I actually prefer they do, because we live in a high cost-of-living area and they can save their money for their own home when they marry. I can't afford to give the kids downpayments, but I can let them stay here and then they can...

When do you put on your aid(s)/implant(s)?

I usually put my HA in right before I leave out the door for work, but today I forgot, I was halfway to work and trying to listen to the radio-wondering which of my kids had played with the controls and turned the speaker down on one side? LOL, I quickly realized I had forgotten it. I...

    To the hearing

I wear a HA in my left ear, and I defenitely hear my hair on that side! I have long hair and it must brush against the BTE. It's like crinkly sounding? Especially when the wind blows my hair ( I work outside). I only hear it when I have my HA on, and only on that side-so I think it's...

I think my dad got taken grrr...

:mad: My dad, who is in his 60's, retired, and has early Parkinsons, also has some hearing loss. He's had 2 other sets of HA's, and his loss is the typical loss of aging (vs the otosclerosis I have, we have different issues). He uses a 'certain Brandname' 'hearing loss center'...

News for you need to know about this!!

Unfortunately, it indeed will be hurt-that's loss of revenue. But, the govt. is happy to pay Mastercard-those cards aren't free. Also, banks charge fees for withdrawals using cards. Those can add up. I actually like technology and use DD for my own income tax checks. However...

(Near Sidewalk with Dead End) Caution: Deaf and Blind Children

There is a sign on a road I drive on all the time that says 'Caution, Deaf Child At Play'. I've been driving past it for for at least 20 years, and I imagine the child is like 30-something by now, and I wonder if he/she is still at play, LOL!

    Camping

I voted 'Sorta'. I like camping well enough for two or three days at a time. Then I like going home and washing everything and sleeping in my own bed, lol. We are going camping this summer down on the shoreline for three days, which is quite enough for me-long enough to enjoy it, short enough to...

Never taking your eyes off them

Have you considered using one of those child-leads that are attached to a cute backpack worn by the child? I'm not typically a fan of these-however, for your situation, it might be a great way to keep your dd close. Walmart.com: Goldbug - 2-in-1 Monkey Child Safety Harness: Travel Solutions

Battery Burns Hole In Toddler's Esophagus

You have to be soooo careful with the little batteries that come out of toys and HA's!!! Parents need to make sure that children don't have access to the batteries (by opening the battery compartment or opening the battery packaging) and that batteries are disposed of where kids can't get to them.

Effects of Hearing Loss on Development

This is an interesting thread. I am an adult who is becoming HOH-I have progressive hearing loss. It's only on one side and only moderate-yet, sometimes I struggle, in fact it was the struggling that got me to see an ENT in the first place (before I knew about it). So, I can only imagine how...

News for you need to know about this!!

I am not happy about this. It takes revenue away from the United States Postal Service. And, not everyone has bank accounts or access to places that take the card, the Mastercard or whatever it is that they use if you don't have an account. This will be a hardship for many elderly and disabled...

    HA and school

I understand :aw: I just recently started wearing an HA, it's also small and colored to match my hair. It was weird at first, getting used to hearing noises and voices, at work, that I had not heard well in a long time-like someone to the left of me (where my loss is) calling my name or...

    Deaf Irony

Yes, I have otosclerosis. My insurance does cover the BAHA's. But, my doctor and I wanted to start with the least invasive option first (also, because I do lifting at work, any surgery in the ear area means several weeks off work). So far, I'm mostly happy with the hearing aid, it helps a lot.

Why Is It Great To Be Deaf/HoH?

I have a funny story-with nice weather now, we sleep with windows open. Friday morning, the birds in the trees outside were chirping madly at 4:30 am! I had slept on my left side, so my right ear (the one with normal hearing) heard them and I woke up, as did dh. I simply rolled over so my right...

    Deaf Irony

I think it's ironic that my (good) health insurance will cover Viagra, and weight-loss surgery, but not hearing aids...hello, is not my hearing as important as those??? Thankfully, I was able to scrape up $ for it (I had been saving to finish my kitchen, oh well that can wait) but many people...

    Drive thru

I think it's a "Taco Bell' thing. I love Taco Bell, but the one near my home gets something wrong nearly every time I go through the drive-thru. I know it's not because of me, it's them, because they were doing this long before my hearing loss started :laugh2: It's funny you guys mentioning...

I'm so pissed off at census worker!

You might be able to get a blank Census form at your library, or a local community center. I've seen them.

Please help me make choices : )

I had my appt. and it's better now-I'm not mega-hearing everything, lol. If anything, it might even be too quiet, but I have another appt. in June so I'll make notes for any further adjustments. I also switched the 'dome' end on the HA to a slightly bigger one, and it seems to be in place better.
