    Planning for college..

Yes, I agree-my oldest DS is a freshman at RIT, he is not Deaf/HOH, but he has fellow students in his major that are, they are not necessarily NTID students. Dh, Ds and I attended the two day orientation a few weeks back, and were impressed how the school seemed to accomodate everyone. The...

What is your favourite type of aid?

I have a conductive hearing loss, and I use a mini-BTE. At this point, it is powerful enough. I plan to use this style as long as possible, depending on how my hearing loss progresses. I didn't consider the BAHA, although my insurance covers it (but NOT the BTE, which I paid cash for) because...

DeafNation Expo Worcester, MA September 25th 2010

 I saw this and am very interested (I'm less than 2 hr from Worchester) but I had a few questions- Would I 'fit in' even though I'm not Deaf and I don't know ASL (yet)? I have hearing loss and I do use a hearing aid and I really want to look into cellphone options as I want to replace...

    soundbite: new hearing device

How odd this device is. I have otosclerosis, so that is conductive hearing loss, currently single-sided. I don't think I am interested in this device. It says you still have to wear a microphone behind the ear, so I'll just stick with my BTE hearing aid, and not have junk in my mouth...

    Not wearing Hearing aids

I read it. The guy probably was baffled that you were speaking, yet saying you were deaf. Many hearing people do not realize that some deaf/Deaf people speak. He was probably thinking  lol.

    Adjustment to late onset deafness

Hello! I understand what you're talking about. For me, work was the tipping point in even deciding to see an ENT to start with. I think you'll probably end up really happy with the HA's. They take time though-it took me a good month to get used to it. Hope all goes well!

    Adjustment to late onset deafness

I think for me, I'm not necessarily 100% 'on board' with this whole hearing loss thing  like, I try to 'get by' but the reality is, I should admit when I need help, and typically I won't...I should have had DH do the ordering. I also need to get in a better habit of putting in the HA...

    Adjustment to late onset deafness

I have a funny story to share-last week, I was home on vacation (we did stuff locally) and I often forgot to wear my hearing aid. No biggie, my kids are loud enough LOL. Well, Sunday afternoon, I took it out to nap, and neglected to put it back in. We then left to go eat out. We ended up at...

    Anti-Hearing Aid people?

Yes, I think this may be the case, too. I posted in another thread about how a certain 'brandname hearing aid center' sold my Dad VERY EXPENSIVE cic's-which were never powerful enough for him and only lasted 5 years! Against my recommendations (made based on my own recent search for a HA)...

Girl Trapped in Washing Machine Survives....

I'm suprised that, at 7, the girl would try to play in a washer-and who closed the door? My own front loader has to be closed from outside with a good push. I taught my kids from an early age that we NEVER play in appliances like washers, fridges, ect.

    Hearing Impaired Term?

I'm not always sure what term to use to describe myself. I do not consider myself deaf, at this point-I have otosclerosis, and that is progressive, so someday I probably will be profoundly deaf (at least in one ear). I usually just tell people-if I need to-that I have some hearing loss. I'm...

I think my dad got taken grrr...

They look different than other earmolds I've seen-these look like a tube and it goes way in the ear, rather than earmolds that go in the outer ear. It struck me as strange because this particular place heavily advertises this particular BTE as 'the new open-fit style!' but then he has an...

    Heat Wave of 2010

It was 100 here yesterday, I work outside and was outside for over 8 hrs. It was BRUTAL. I'm suprised my hearing aid didn't short out from all the sweat. Today was hot too, 95+. I'm still wiped out from this. Oh, and yes, it is indeed hot enough for me!!! (I got asked that ALL day, and since my...
