AGBAD support Hillary Clinton's no CC online?

I call shenanigans. Even post-lingual non-signing deafies need captioning, let alone AGBell's constituency.

Just curious about Deaf Pride history

I don't know that this is necessarily so - the 'liberal agenda', such as it is, doesn't always match up with the cause of disability rights. And I say that as a pretty strong leftist. Look, for instance, at which political groups are more likely to support euthanasia.

    Is one CI enough ?

They're not errors in logic. She's not adding those percentages, or averaging them; those percentages are the result of doing a given test with both CIs, as opposed to just one. (Testing is almost always done with the left and right ear separately, then with the two together.) And yes...

    Free HA

I'm wearing a Savia Art on my left (non-implanted) ear, and I quite like it. Not sure it's "mini", though, unless there are two Savia Arts? Anyway: good sound, and some *really* effective feedback canceling. The one downside is that the microphone filter clogs fairly frequently (every month...

    Type to Talk Phones

One more thing: making this work without writing code is certainly possible for someone who's comfortable tinkering, but it'd be a messy and inelegant solution. However, I think Java (a popular programming language) has all the libraries built in that you'd need to do both TTS and VOIP, so a...

    Type to Talk Phones

Depending on your needs, yes. You can't do speech-to-text, but you could do text-to-speech. Basically, the easiest way to do this is with VOIP (a phone that runs on your computer) - Skype is the best known, but there are others. I use Gizmo; Vonage is also popular. So, it's running on your...

    Speak n Read

I just watched the demo video, and I'll stand by what I said, with some modifications. It seems to do decent VR. But it's still not a substitute for an interpreter, or CART or Typewell if that's your thing. Note that the two speakers in the video are very careful not to speak over each other...

    Speak n Read

I hadn't seen this before, but I'm going to guess it doesn't work. I'm a computer science major, and speech recognition is one of the more interesting problems out there in the field at the moment. Basically, you need a really quiet environment and settings specific to the individual speaking...

Sooo confused about whether or not to get a CI

This is what I'm doing now - a Harmony CI on the right, and a Phonak Savia on the left. It helps a lot - the Savia helps my brain make sense of what it's hearing, but the CI supplies a lot more information to play with, if that makes sense to you. The audiologists I've spoken to say that some...

Aren't we wasting time with HAs...

I should clarify - I've also had some pretty remarkable results (although, speech on the second day? Wow!). I did notice significant improvement quickly after activation, and my hearing is already much better than it was with hearing aids before the surgery. But I also know that it's not as...

Aren't we wasting time with HAs...

I don't know that it's so clear that CIs are better than hearing aids. Obviously, I haven't fully adjusted, but the sound quality through my hearing aids when I was a kid was far superior to the quality through my CI now - and even if the experience ends up being the same or equivalent once...

Actually, it's German. (At least, the text at the end was in German.)

    A cochlear implant story

I'm pretty sure it's a Nucleus of some sort - they have that sort of spoked appearance to the headpiece, while AB's headpieces are solid.

    CI candidacy....

The thing about the grey area, though, is that there can still be huge quality of life improvements. For example, when I went through the evaluation, I scored well within the candidacy range. I also did fairly poorly on the CNC test (16% in the ear that ended up being implanted). On the flip...

Right copy Vp phone for conversation... to Court?

I am not a lawyer, but I would guess this falls under the same regulations as phone tapping. If that's the case, then it depends on your state - in some states, you can do this; in other states, you have to inform the other person you're calling and then they can ask you to stop recording.

    SnapVRS and Ojo VP

For those of you who have an Ojo, what was the wait time? I found out a few days ago that my application was accepted, but there's a long waiting list, and no one at snap seems to be able to ballpark when I might get mine.

European sperm harder to get in U.S. after ban

It wasn't in this article, you're right. But there's a recurring theme on his blog of blasting non-signers. (Not just people who push oral only - but all non-signers.) I suppose respecting others' personal choices is irrelevant to him! That sort of extremism and hyperbole damages his...

European sperm harder to get in U.S. after ban

You do realize that this same blogger called lip reading (and asking if someone lip reads) a hate crime? That's not exactly a tolerant opinion either. (And an ignorant one, given the McGurk effect.)
