    I love seeing a 360° turnaround.

A very good observation. As a Michigan native, It is good to hear the pistons are doing well, but basketball is a sport that I only follow when they are doing well. (Yah, I'm one of those people.)

    Free Education!

"free two years of community college . . ." My ears perk up. ". . . for those who get good grades." Darn - so close. I got the only perfect score on the ACT in the history of my county, but good grades, not so much.

This is the natural progression from the Participation Medals that all of our children receive.

    Who is single here?

So I guess I should probably throw a post in here, seeing as I'm single and have been since high school. (Wow! has it really been that long?)

hard of hearing and social skills

As someone who just recently lost my hearing completely, I would say the first thing you need to realize is that the problem/difficulty isn't living with the inability to hear. The main problem is that you (and I) don't really know HOW to live with the inability to hear. It's not the situation...

    Strange human behavior

Upon further investigation, litter thrown in the path of a moving vehicle can result in a year of imprisonment. http://www.ncsl.org/research/environment-and-natural-resources/states-with-littering-penalties.aspx

    Strange human behavior

I'm pretty sure in Michigan it is just considered littering and grouped with the normal fine. Usually around $250 fine for the first littering offense and much worse after that (I think local government covers littering.) Of course I could be crazy <-----I think I put this after about...

How is your weather today part II

Yah, and I think that's all moving east, so I'm not looking forward to getting my car out of the driveway in the morning.

Thought while watching a ASL-related vid

Yah, I just just lost my hearing completely less than three months ago. Already all of my doctor's are pushing me towards the CI rout. Don't get me wrong, I was raised in a hearing world, and adjusting is extremely hard for me right now, but I don't have a problem with my hearing situation - I...

How is your weather today part II

My poor small fireplace is roaring right now. Trying to get the house to a manageable temperature. This means I have to go outside and haul some wood into the house.:eek3:

What was the last movie you watched?

Anchorman 2. Wasn't really a fan. Haven't seen the first one.

    Random Vents.....

And on that note, I can't stand drivers who drive obscenely slow in one lane traffic, and when it splits into two lanes and you go to pass them, all of a sudden it is green flag racing.

    Hello from Utah

Yah, small towns can stink for that reason. Although I don't know if I would choose a big city. Welcome

Deaf Culture Hijacked: The Hearing-Minded Taking Advantage of the Word “Deaf”

So I really don't have any expert knowledge in this area. (Like NO knowledge), but it seems to me the ultimate problem is education. One of the bulleted points provided compares it to racism and chauvinism. That's a pretty good comparison because both of those were commonplace at one time until...

hard of hearing and social skills

This doesn't really add anything to this conversation, but I just want to say that I'm really glad there are others who are facing the same stuff as me. I really thought when I joined alldeaf I was going to be sort of different from everybody else because of my mostly hearing background, but I'm...

What are you thinking about Part VII

Yah, I live in prime farm territory and everyone is selling their land. Farming is a big employment opportunity and our county is like 24% unemployed so we need our farms. I actually briefly worked on a Dairy farm when my menier's symptoms returned but they went under and had to sell.

What are you thinking about Part VII

I was more referring to using my voice after class with other students when they were studying. But yah, I think it is much easier to learn ASL by immersion. I had a few friends who were Deaf and that helped me learn some pretty good basics. Unfortunately, at that point in my life I was friends...

What are you thinking about Part VII

I'm going to be going through the exact same thing soon. I am going to be attending ASL classes at a local (local around these parts means less than an hour away) community college and I'm super concerned that my ability to hear is going to be an issue. I doubt they would really to much to...
