    The "now I hear you-now I don't" game: ???

I don't know if that's the right place to ask, but I read here and there about some of you remember doing this "game", or knowing other deaf kids doing it. What's the meaning of it, exactly? I understand it has something to do with parents/professionals expectations, like pretending you...

    FM Systems.. Yay or Nay?

I've been looking for that damn thing for a while but can't find it... Can you please give a link to some site that sells it? It would be useful right now, my son's HAs keep whistling and I can't figure out if it's wax, moisture or the earplugs becoming small again... Sorry for going OT!

Don't wear ultra powered hearing aids too often!!!

Notice that he warned about this specifically reffering to children. Adults should be able to notice an exaggerate volume (or already have had damage...), while children are often obliged to wear aids even when they clearly don't want them, and nobody wonders about WHY they refuse aids (it was...

sign language posters as gentle reminders for hearing housemates

What a wonderful thing!!! Such a pity they are only in ASL and not italian sign language... Would help a LOT especially for us, hearing hardheaded parents who are sooooo slow in learning signs!!!

    FM Systems.. Yay or Nay?

It also depends on what kids actually do at that age... I mean, music, school and so on should be a chance to stay with other kids, learn simple rules to get along with others, and play, play, play. Language is everywhere around these things, being it oral or sign, so I personally don't feel the...

Can a person be profoundly deaf with residual hearing?

In Italy they actually make a difference between "sordità profonda" and "cofosi", which means no residual at all. Anyway, some profound deafs I know can hear something even without HA. My son sometimes turns at loud sounds even without aids (after all, we make sound tests without aids to...

    FM Systems.. Yay or Nay?

I think 2 yo is really small for using an FM system... I think I'll be considering it fro school, when he'll be 6 or 7 and really need to understand what the teacher says. While he is so small, I think teachers could accomodate him a little trying not to cover their mouths and learning some...

    Giving up on hearing aids

Yes, that one is NOT a LIS sign (LIS is italian sign language) but a simple everyday gesture which hearies use, too: So quite clearly understandable from eveyone around here!! But it's actually quite insulting so use it carefully :P

Don't wear ultra powered hearing aids too often!!!

I jump in this thread since the HA my son uses are made from an (italian) brand that specifically pointed out this risk some years ago... In fact, their policy is to turn up volume very slowly and let the person adjust with the exact volume needed, to prevent damage wich I think IS possible. The...

    Hello from an italian mum!

Hi there! I finally found the courage to join :D after lurking for a while... I was quite embarassed to join an "all deaf" forum since I'm hearing... But anyway. Here I am. I'm italian (so please forgive my poor english) and I'm the proud mother of two children: a 5 yo girl, hearing, and a...
