Carbs/grains, what have you, if you don't burn it (meaning utilize for energy), body must store it. It is converted to fat = raise LDLs (bad form of cholesterol except for veggies) = equivalemt to eating fatty meat.
If you are new to exercising, get a feel for the equipment at the gym. Depending on your goals, build from that experience. BTW, you have to keep it up, or you lose any benefit you get from exercise.
