    Cure for CAPD?

Hi all, I have CAPD which, on particularly bad days, makes me wish I could be voluntarily deaf (think "when sound makes no sense and stresses you out!"). Recently, I heard from a contact that Acetyl-L-Carnitine stimulates the part of the brain that dysfunctions in persons with CAPD and can...

Caught DEAF SIGNS in the new movie, KNOWING

Yeah, I couldn't see how, either... But then, until today, I never would have dreamed my audial memory would have been linked to my inability to understand what people were saying to me. Sometimes things have an odd way of being related.

I had a lazy eye, too. It was noted as a "turn" in my eye. It fixed itself by the time I was about 12. Is that related to LD, then? If so, how? I was born three weeks late, as they wanted to see if my mum would go into labour by herself. Not sure if that's also linked.... Can't really see how.

Yes, I see in pictures, also, including words. Math was never a problem for me. In fact, I'm a programmer, now, and do it well. I've always been really good at puzzles. If my hearing is a learning difficulty, then it's only localized to hearing, because if I see something, then I don't forget...

Caught DEAF SIGNS in the new movie, KNOWING

The ear infection comment is making my ears twitch ;) I've had a nasty ear infection only a fortnight ago, leaving my entire right side of my face in pain. I took Flucloxacillin and Zapain (30mg codine and 500mg paracetamol) just to deal with it. This is one on a long history of ear infections...

    Capd

Yes, I think ASL would be beneficial indeed, especially long term. I've noticed my CAPD is getting worse with age. It was bad at school, it's far worse now. I don't think my job helps, as I work twelve hour days sat in front of a computer and hardly speak to people. Everything is visual...

Caught DEAF SIGNS in the new movie, KNOWING

My wife suggested that, long ago... However, I have no problems in the other departments. For example, I learned to read quite early, really, and have no problems with anything visual. I actually have a very good memory for images and visual patterns (almost photographic), which has always made...

    Capd

I see. I can see how this would help, but I don't think it would help completely. Hearing what a person has said is only part of the problem; the other part is converting those words to meaning. For example, even when I clearly "hear" what my wife says to me, I often chew on her comments for...

    Capd

Yes, my wife has a similar problem. She's registered blind, not visually impaired. With blind being the stronger of the two, she still has some residual sight. It's at least enough to not walk into things. However, where she's been blind so long, people assume she's fully sighted, so don't...

    Capd

Yes, I'll have to find someone who understands the condition. I've already been tested but that was for the ear mechanics, and would not have uncovered the CAPD. I also described my symptoms to the consultant, and he recommended that a hearing aid might help. Having read that hearing aids don't...

Do deaf people "hear" inner voice in their head??

Do you mean the inner monologue that people often have? Or do you mean voices separate from the persons own thought? I have an inner monologue in my head, but it's usually just to coincide with the imagery I see in there. Most of what goes on in my head is visual. That's why I love books more...

    Capd

Hi All, I feel I need to write this because I feel liberated, relieved (strangely) and altogether normal, having self diagnosed myself (with the help of a forum member) that I have CAPD / APD. For years, now, I've been living with all the symptoms of CAPD and never knew why. These...

Caught DEAF SIGNS in the new movie, KNOWING

Thank you for that. I've just done some Googling and it seems to tick all the checkoxes. Now I know what's wrong with me, although it doesn't seem to be something that can be fully remedied. When I saw a hearing specialist about my hearing, I was told a hearing aid might help, though it might...

Caught DEAF SIGNS in the new movie, KNOWING

I was drawn to this post from a google search. Having watched the film Knowing, I realized that someone actually has the same problem as me, so figured there must be a name for it. For about ten years, now, I've experienced a strange hearing issue. I might have had it longer, but growing up in a...
