Read a movie before you watch it.

An idea came to me. I made another post about adding subtitles to movies that you can watch on a mobile device such as a mobile phone. A long time ago I made a "Subtitle player video". Basically it's a video about 2 hours long that when you play it all you see is a black background image. So...

I want to learn Cued Speech

I don't know all that much about cued speech but I've watched a few videos about it and I'm very interested. I just got my CI but of course I'm still hard of hearing and won't pick up all speech. So I'm thinking it would be a great thing to learn. So I'm wondering if any of you have and...

Read a movie before you watch it.

Yea, that's a pretty new movie so it might take some time. There are other online movie script sites as well. I looked and can't find that one yet. Alternately you can look for the subtitles for the movie and read that. Give it a couple of weeks and I'm sure you'll be able to find the...

Read a movie before you watch it.

I know this isn't the best solution but I just thought I'd share it anyway. Imagine a group of friend are going to a movie in a theater and invite you along. Of course it's hard to find movies that have captioning. The nearest theater that has it in my are is about an hour and a half drive away...

My Mission to create a better "Snug Fit" (For CI and HA).

Good point RoseRodant. I'll make sure no latex is used on this. I know some people who are allergic to it too. Well, I got my first plastic prototype made over this week and and I'm loving this. Unfortunately the only plastic my friend had for his 3D printer is black so it's made of black...

    What do you carry daily

I have a CI (N5). If I'm on a trip I carry my case that has a dryer in it. Spare batteries and sometimes a small cloth in case I need to clean a little.

My Mission to create a better "Snug Fit" (For CI and HA).

I just made a huge breakthrough with this design. The issue of comfort has now been solved because it now doesn't touch your skin at all when you're wearing it. It'll only touch your skin when it needs to. So when you're wearing it you won't feel it so you could wear it all day long. Let me...

My Mission to create a better "Snug Fit" (For CI and HA).

Thanks for the encouragement and I'll be contacting some of you to beta test when the time comes. Let me share a little more. Like I said, I'm not yet ready to reveal the entire design publicly yet. I hope you can understand why. I've had some of my ideas ripped off any marketed by other...

I don't think they make them for the N5. Do they? Ron

My Mission to create a better "Snug Fit" (For CI and HA).

Mine sometimes falls off when I'm laying down watching TV. And when I'm near water I'd rather not take any chances. So that's my main reason for taking this project on. It just feels better in those kinds of situations to know it's not going to accidentally fall off. My prototype doesn't look...

My Mission to create a better "Snug Fit" (For CI and HA).

I wore BTE Hearing aids since about the 4th grade all the way up to my early 20's. Then just a couple of months ago I got my Nucleus 5 Cochlear Implant. So I know that they can fall off your ear during some activities. I also understand the fear of them falling off when near water such as when...

Watching Movies on Mobile device/phone with subtitles

I just found something the other day and thought I'd share it with you all. If you have a mobile device or phone that allows you to add and watch videos to it then this is one way you'll be able to watch them with subtitles. I found this free program called PocketDivXEncoder. So I can take a...

A CI moment (First phone call)

Thank you everyone. I used the T-coil setting on my N5. For about a week before that night I made that call I had been practicing with the Telephone with confidence. So I had been experimenting between using the microphone and the T-coil setting. The main reason I like the T-coil is because...

A CI moment (First phone call)

That's true. I couldn't handle a long conversation over the phone yet. Especially, as you said, not with someone I don't know very well. But it is great to know that I can now make some basic calls like calling for help or to remind to pick up something on the way home from work. I think in a...

A CI moment (First phone call)

I just thought I'd stop in and share an update. It hasn't been all that long and I'm still in "Hearing training" but it's going great and I'm hearing more and more every day. Sounds are becoming clearer and easier to identify. The other day something happened that actually brought me to tears...

CI surgery pennding and I'm nervous

I'm pretty sure I'd be correct when I say that everyone was and will be nervous before their CI surgery. I know I sure was. I just got mine turned on a little over a month ago so it's very recent. But I'll also add this. If my insurance would allow me to get my other ear done next week I'd do...

    Doctors againsts ASL

I recognize sarcasm when I see it but even so your first sentence is 100% true. It would not be their place to discuss that unless they are an expert in blindness. Otherwise their suggestions could turn out to be the wrong choice for the patient and do more harm then good. They should find the...

    Doctors againsts ASL

Keep in mind that I'm now 39 years old (Well I will be tomorrow for tomorrow is my birthday. :) ). But my story went like this. In the 1st grade I had my tonsils removed and also had tubes in my ear because of inner ear fluid. Everyone thought that was the only cause of my hearing loss at that...

Can hydration level affect earmold fit?

Our bodies expand and contract because of a lot of things. Including the weather. Be sure to tell them you're having this issue. Ron Jaxon

What would happen to CI if the company went out of business?

Well, if it came down to it and the company that supplies my implant closed down. I don't think it would just involve the company that made them. It would involve much more then that such as insurance, the doctors that put the implant in my, my audiologist. I'm not saying that they would all be...
