Colorism: An ignored aspect of racism.

The term 'reverse racism' was coined by white males who didn't like affirmative action. :)

Do deaf folks consider themselves disabled?

What part do you disagree with? I don't think a hearing person should look at a deaf person and first think, "Oh, they are disabled...I wonder what else they can't do..." or whatever. Just think, "Oh hey, different language needs. Whatever."

Colorism: An ignored aspect of racism.

That's not reverse racism. Racism is racism, but what you described is not racist. That's unintended discrimination. There's no affirmative action policies that are designed to punish white people based on their skin tone.

oh, and add: Having a disability is not the same as acting disabled. Deaf shouldn't be thought of as 'disabled'.

Do deaf folks consider themselves disabled?

All of the things you request from hearing makes the point that being deaf is a disability because this is a hearing world. If this were a flying world and you didn't have wings, that would also be an issue. I personally would like to see deaf get access to everything hearing people do and...

Do deaf folks consider themselves disabled?

Ah, well, I can't serve in the USAF because I'm 1) hoh and 2) a single parent. I mean, there are people who can't do those things and they're not 'disabled'. They're just not qualified. In regards to being a commercial pilot, that's true, but deaf can still be pilots, nu?

    Is sign language Universal?

Gestures are universal. Sign languages are not. I'm not sure how a a hearing person would have any more difficulty. I mean, when I dated a French guy, what do you think we did if we didn't understand something? Made a gesture, used a Hebrew word, or a Latin root.

Colorism: An ignored aspect of racism.

"Reverse racism" is an oxymoron. It would just mean 'reversing the racism that's already been caused'.

    Schools to Stop teaching Cursive!

Kids are already getting shit educations, so let's just make them even more ignorant. Sigh. Now cursive will be something that the 'best educated' know. Great. Another way to divide the masses when it comes to language.

School for the Deaf denies deaf child with Down Syndrome placement

There are many who had limited sign on AD as children because of not being taught. I think this girl is going to suffer regardless, as mainstream or general public ed has no idea how to deal with dual diagnosis deaf.
