    Guide Dog for the Deaf

No, we don't have a dog. I asked my hearing specialist about the hearing dogs and we did look up sites such as paws for a cause. I'll start planning for one asap.

    Guide Dog for the Deaf

Oh ok, thank you. I understand better now. I am a 50 in high frequencies and a 70 in low frequencies in my left ear, and 110 in my right, so I'm probably qualified to have one...

A warm hello to everyone! :)

    Hi :) welcome!

How hard of hearing is HoH?

i strongly advise you get your hearing test. You can get free hearing tests at a clinic or center in your area. Just google free hearing tests *name of your area*. There are different degrees of hearing loss. Mild, moderate, severe, and profound. From your post, it seems to me that you're...

Who else is HoH? I want to talk to you

Yes. I knew. Which baffles me even more. I wonder what his wife and mother thought. though, it is sweet that his last words were in sign language to his deaf wife, I didn't know that part.

    Hello!Please Read :)

Hi! Welcome. :) not a lot of fairly young hearing people are interested in the deaf/HOH. Unfortunately, I've come across several misconceptions: 1. HOH equals hearing. Whenever I tell people that I am HOH, they ignore me and continue treating me like a hearing person such as talking to me with...

    Hello Newbie

Hi, welcome! :D I've been deaf/HOH (profoundly deaf in my right ear and moderately to severely HOH in my left) my entire life, so I don't know what it's like to grow up hearing then losing it later on. But it must be hard for you now and I understand that you're upset. However, everything will...

    Hello

Welcome, bitner90! :) I love it when a hearing person opens their eyes and looks into the deaf community. You mentioned that you'd maybe like to work with deaf people one day. What kind of job? An interpreter or a hearing specialist or a teacher at a deaf school? I'm just curious. I hope you...

    Guide Dog for the Deaf

Thank you for the information. that is really helpful for me to know. Would the test be taken without any listening devices (hearing aid, cochlear implant, etc.) or with? :hmm:

    Why are you deaf?

Nobody knows why I'm partially deaf. (I still don't know how to identity myself - deaf or HOH. :P) As far as we know, I have possibly been born with a hearing loss. I wasn't officially diagnosed till the age of three and a half. My mom thinks maybe trauma before birth or the birthing process...

    Guide Dog for the Deaf

Does anybody here have a guide dog for deaf? If so, tell me about it. I am thinking of getting one when I move out in a few years. I think it'd be a great help especially since my hearing loss is progressive. However, am I "eligible" to get one. I am moderately to severely hard of...

Who else is HoH? I want to talk to you

Is it ok for me to join the club? :P I dislike Alexander Graham Bell. I didn't know about his views on deafness till pretty recently. I am shocked and disappointed on how he sees deaf and HOH people. I'm not against DHH learning how to speak verbally but banning sign language is just wrong! And...

    Your opinion on speech?

Wow! I didn't expect there'd be a lot of answers to this thread! :D I agree that DHH should be exposed to speech AND sign. Both are useful and important in my opinion. I do wish my parents encouraged asl along with speech. but you can't have everything you want. I do appreciate speech therapy...

    A newbie had just joined!

@deafdyke thank you for the offer! But I am at a public school with a hearing impairment (I know, the word is practically outlawed in the deaf community, but you know what I mean...) program. And yes that is why I have DHH supports like deaf camps because I go to mainstream and am not part of...

What Ticks You Off (Most) About Hearies?

Annoying Things Hearing People Do to Deaf People What are things hearies do to deafies? Have you guys dealt with annoying, ignorant hearing people? I have, a few times. When I explain about my deafness, they yell at me or "test" my hearing by covering their mouths and saying something then...

    Deaf Movie

I've never watched any deaf movies. I should and would some day...any recommendations or suggestions?

    Switched at Birth TV show.

My favorite SAB character is Daphne. Bay is, too. I love how the show has such a positive light on deaf culture and everything. Pretty cool.

    Pimped my hearing aids

Cute! I admire those who decorate their HAs and/or cochlear implants. I don't because it causes attention from people. :P mine are skin-toned and tiny, so you can barely see them except for the tube and part of the ear mold.
