    Favorite HAs for babies?

Great suggestions on hypoallergenic earmolds, and Ear Gear. Thanks much! soutthpaw - every day I teach myself a little more ASL, practice it on the baby and teach it to my older.daughter. I look forward to formal instruction in near future, hopefully.

    where to start? deaf baby

It's true, I didn't mention the hearing aids until later in the thread. But not in my OP. HAs were always the intention and we were on that road from the start. So with that I wondered what next. He'd have the HAs but then what...and in the weeks until he actually gets them I was not sure how...

    Favorite HAs for babies?

Oh no beige for us! Aside from wanting a clear visual if something should fall off the baby and a color being good for that, we do agree it's more fun. The Phonak link our audiologist pointed us too has some pretty sleek looking choices. We talked about keeping tabs on his growing ears with...

    where to start? deaf baby

We've already got the ball rolling with hearing aids and are meeting with early intervention services Monday. Things are somewhat coming together since my OP...but I am still overwhelmed. I've been practicing my signing and would love the whole family to learn but we also want to take advantage...

    Deaf Day Care Interest

What places have you found that do provide services? I haven't found anyone, at least not for babies under 3, just the preschool programs at PDSD and Desert Voices (oral school). so baby is going to typical daycare. I am in Phoenix too.

Thanks! Heard back from the audiologist - she recommended a Phonak for the baby, mentioning smaller size and being water proof. Us having no experience with this, we.wanted opinions. Hope to hear from any parents of hoh babies that might be on this board as well.

    Favorite HAs for babies?

Anyone have a baby that wears HA? My little one is 2 months and we are in the process of making a decision. The audiologist talked to us about Oticon and one other, I can't remember the name  but will be forwarding us some information to go over so we can read about them. But if there are...

Good point on how to express it to EI.. we will tell her we want him to acquire oral skills and also ASL and see what she says. I wonder what most people around here do. The audiologist yesterday has the point of view that our child won't need ASL and can do just fine orally... we hesitate...

    Let Me Introduce Myself!

Hi! I have an infant son with moderate bilateral sensorineural loss. I am also beginning to learn signing. So far just self-teaching through websites but plan to find classes, books, videos, a tutor - don't really know yet. Enjoying it a lot so far.

    where to start? deaf baby

Wow, such great advice, so many perspectives! Here's an update. He had his 2nd BAER today at the children's hospital. Again he didn't sleep deeply and fussed a lot but she got more data than last time and found the responses consistent with moderate. The original severe result was due to one...

That's great:) Ok so ASL as a first language? Or can we successfully work on oral English and at the same time ASL? No one in the family knows any ASL. So i can't teach what i don't know. I am not sure what options early intervention will present us with on Monday. I know it's easy to be...

    New mom here...

Hi, I am a newbie mom to this board too. My son is only 8 weeks but I can identify.with much of what you wrote! He too failed twice at birth. Then 3 weeks later, and at 6 weeks an ABR showed moderate to severe loss. I am totally overwhelmed and anxious about the future too but know we can handle...

    where to start? deaf baby

I'd love for him to be bilingual. How is he going to learn ASL if it isn't used at home or daycare? Even if we as a family take classes... I just worry we're losing time. He's 8 weeks already and I am afraid he's getting no language from me while I am on maternity leave with him. Although we...

Yes we are planning on amplification asap so he can get as much English language as possible and we also want to sign with him but my wonder is, how do we as his family learn asl in order for hIm to learn ? Right now I can't expose him to more than a few basic signs I've looked up online. it is...

    where to start? deaf baby

Well I'm completely overwhelmed. My son, 8 weeks old has moderate/severe loss (one ear each) and I know that our state's Early intervention program will be connecting with us; we've been referred by the children's hospital that conducted his BAER. And we are seeing an Ent next week. But for...

I think he is moderate--severe actually. Just received the paperwork from his BAER and it describes one ear as moderate and one as severe. The audiologist only mentioned moderate at the appt. Will learn more next week. They're referring us to early intervention. My great.concern is communicating...

Thanks all! I knew right away that I wanted our family to sign. What if his hearing loss progresses, and signing is a way to begin communicating now. I don't know how long it will be before he's fitted for hearing aids and I don't want to delay his language. The children's hospital that...

I am overwhelmed with all of the information we've been given and what I've found myself online. I am happy to have found this forum because I really don't know where to begin. I know that I...
