I apologize for being a little slow this morning, but are you supporting or opposing this?
Sorry again...this is what I get for trying to think right after I woke up.
I've got a feeling that was Al Qaeda and related groups that stirred that up, and it would make "political" sense for them to do so, to try and turn it into a West vs. East thing.
I've known other Muslims who wouldn't hurt a fly no matter how ticked off they were. One guy was in my MBA class...
InfLected? Are we nouns and verbs? (Sorry, I had to.)
I visited a UU church once when I was in undergrad, and even though I didn't agree with them in the end, I was made to feel extremely welcome.
To me it seems like an even exchange would be fair--each learns something from the other. I'd recommend that for ANY situation where there is a language difference, not just for the case of ASL. An uneven exchange ends up hurting everyone involved. But that's just me.
I think it IS human nature. I had a Spanish teacher in college that on occasion taught us a swear word and other off-color phrases. In fact, the first thing he said on the first day, of one class, was the phrase, "He tenido un pedo cerebral." (Literally "I've had a brain fart.") Reason...
I don't get why you wouldn't want an instructor who can personally identify with the kids, and who hopefully kids could later come to respect as a role model. Why would she not be favored instead?? Or am I just dense???
That's a cool idea, to have Linux on CD. I might end up doing that someday so I can try it without doing any damage to my computer. I don't have the technical smarts to do stuff like build my own server. Or restore my hard drive if I permanently reformat it or something. ;)
And thanks for...
I honestly don't think anybody would be stupid enough to write a law that would affect ASL. I have a feeling that if we could see ALL of the legal language, that would be spelled out very clearly. And if not, I have a feeling the bill would be revised before it ever cleared Congress.
Let me be frank--right now, the WHOLE tone of this thread is pretty disgusting, from just about everybody involved on every side, with the exceptions of Liebling, Teresh, and Angel_Realm. The bashing is senseless and needs to stop.
I'm not quite brave enough to use Linux, but I DID ditch AOL years ago, and using Mozilla instead of Internet Explorer seems to spare me from the worst stuff.
It turned out that some AOL employees had sold a bunch of e-mail addresses to a spam company, and that's why there was SO much spam at...
And in that case there's the choice to go somewhere else. I'm not saying what policies I do and don't disagree with, but simply that the admin has the right to decide and it's the choice of a person posting to either deal with the rules or leave. I've left forums both for being too restrictive...
AD is basically private property--Alex's website--and you are like guests in his home. The First Amendment doesn't really apply within the confines of somebody's home, nor does it apply in a forum, because both are private property and the government can't trample on the owner's right to...
I think IF it provides an incentive for immigrants to learn English, and is accompanied by a strong education initiative so they have the resources to do so, it could help. However, if it turns into anything that is EVER used to forbid them from speaking and learning their native language as...
Wow...I just read this again, and I'm really surprised you say the contract could actually be nullified. I guess that happens from taking some course of action that's SO much against the contract that it's a clear violation?
