I am stating that is the first time I've heard anyone refer to mainstreaming as "socially cool".

As to the bolded above, in your opinion it's "socially cool" to send a child to a mainstream school? Certainly the first time I've heard that. Too bad the kids aren't nice. Perhaps it has less to do with the fact that your child is deaf, than it is another reason "hearing kids" are mean to...

You are back peddling and sidetracking. The audiogram absolutely does make a difference. I will repeat myself. This myth that school districts "keep secret" the option of attending a school for the deaf for an eligible student is wrong. School districts are legally obligated to provide a...

I should clarify that things can and do vary from case to case to a certain extent, although certainly not as much as some might try to lead you to believe. A theoretical example of an audiologically HH student attending one of the CSD might have a sibling who is already attending one of the...

It is an important question, which has been asked and went unanswered before. I am curious about the answer to the question. It makes a difference.

In your extensive research you only listed a handful of schools for the deaf in America. You'll note that each of the ones you posted, the student must have an "educationally significant" hearing loss, the parameters do vary from school to school. You'll also note, that not a single one of the...

    Castrated for Writing Dissent

I tend to agree with you, which is why I wrote that they want responses from posters. However, if this person actually wrote some of this stuff they are posting, it seems very obsessive compulsive to me. I could be wrong. :dunno:

    Castrated for Writing Dissent

This thread is beyond bizarre, and the OP clearly needs some very serious help given his compulsion. While the thread may be bizarre, I think some of the responses have gone too far. The OP wants a reaction from people, and that's exactly what he/she is getting.

    Exciting new on ALEX!!!

That's exciting for him. What are they featuring him for, exactly? Do they feature students each month?

Actually, most of the schools for the deaf are in fact voice off. And no, not many bilateral audiologically HH students attend because majority of the time they don't meet the criterion. I'd love to see anything that supports your assertion that hearing kids get admitted to schools for the...

Not quite accurate, DeafDyke. It is federally mandated that all districts provide the student with a continuum of placement options. And a significant majority of the time, students who are audiologically hard of hearing are not admitted to state schools for the Deaf (even if they use ASL).

If she had fluid in her middle ear (which is why they recommend tubes), they most likely would have worked (drained the fluid).

No, the implication with speech therapy is not that all people who are DHH can have perfect speech. The implication is that they may benefit, their speech might improve, but you don't know until you try it. You are the only one who constantly refers to DHH people and "perfect speech" or...

When your child was first assessed, she likely had a tympanogram which indicated pressure/ fluid in the middle ear which was why tubes were probably recommended. Her hearing loss as that time may have been just a conductive loss. If she just saw the Audi again and there was no indication of a...

I'd like to say first and foremost that I am not judging the OP. With that said, it is the responsibility of parents to do their homework and ask questions. If a child has enough fluid in the middle ear to warrant tubes, it would be incredibly irresponsible (and potentially negligent) of...

I guess I'm just as confused as the others. Didn't you just say she was diagnosed with a mild hearing loss at 3? Why wasn't she aided then? Is it because you didn't want to consent to a simple procedure where they put tubes in her ears to drain the fluid so that her hearing would improve...

To the OP: does your child have an IEP? It does not sound like it, and if she did have an IEP she would have appropriate accommodations to access the curriculum. Also, it is my understanding that Texas has great DHH programs. So, get her officially diagnosed along with hearing aids so that she...

Why do you write with such an authoritive tone, when you have absolutely no real information or facts to support your assertions? You have no idea whether it not this child can improve her speech abilities, or whether or not she would benefit from speech. I didn't read anywhere in the OP...
