Thank you everyone for your replies, as I said it doesnt bother me if they do it to me but my kid is young and sensitive.

How do you deal with hearing people mocking the way you talk? Here in the UK there is quite a bit of it goes on well in my town there is. I personally dont care but my young daughter gets upset when she realises that not only other kids but sometimes adults have mocked her speech.

Im deaf I dont care what name they give it.

with my hearing aids in I can hear the music but not the words.

I was born hearing but all my family were Deaf, I was brought up in a deaf culture. When I started to lose my hearing in my teens I suppose I just thought here it comes. Now Im very deaf but my life is the same as before same friends as when I was hearing.

Hi Im charlotte born and live in UK wear two hearing aids Lip read and BSL have 11 year old daughter who is profoundly deaf.

I live in the UK and must say Iv not heard or read anything about this, I have asked many hearing and deaf friends over the last few days and nobody knew anything about it. Dont forget anything that the UK government want to do now has to be approved by the rest of Europe so it will never happen...

I wear 2 hearing aids, was hearing into my teens now almost no hearing at all in both ears. But hey Im alive and kicking and thats all that matters to me.

When I wear my hearing aids I think Im quiet as I can hear my own voice and I regulate it, but without them I imagine Im quiet but my boyfriend has just told me that I make throat noises and popping sounds with my mouth boy am I embarassed now. I never knew before:giggle:

I could rephase this question into a more harsh terminology..."Should Deaf people be allowed to reproduce?" What sort of question is this? I find the post offensive and maybe this poster is having a laugh at our expense. I just cant believe that someone has posted this on AD.

I found the USA to be very friendly and well mannered especially NY here in UK shop workers are so rude and ill mannered. I travel to France often as we have a holiday home there and I find the shop girls so polite they always wish you a good morning and always say goodbye to customers.

Yesterday I took my daughter out shopping we stopped for coffee and something to eat. While we were in the place a family sat at the next table with 2 kids. My daughter signs and speaks. We were using voice as my friend doent sign My friend who was with us and is hearing got into an arguement...

I had hearing until I was 19, Now totally Deaf at thirtysomething. My daughter is profoundly Deaf from birth. All my sisters Deaf from birth and mother as well.

I think this is a miracle, Im so glad for you but would not like to be you. Its strange how it came back and thatyour audiotory senses still work, because if a part of your brain isnt used for a long time the process is lost forever or so I am told. Use it well
