No, I mean it. Non made up details. There is a condition where people exaggerate details of their lives or create a persona for attention. This could be something like claiming your CI kid is a member of the honors society and is doing SO WELL socially, when in fact a teacher recommended she...

Wasn't this that thing that woman was spamming about here a few years ago? It's not new and not all that useful either. The hearing tech companies are CONVINCED there's money to unwrap. There's NO money to unwrap. We need more affordable tech?!?!!?!?

Thank you LoveBlue!!! What we're arguing for is a COMPREHENSIVE approach that covers all the bases. Speech, Sign, Cued speech and a VARIETY of social, educational and life experiences! That doesn't mean we think all deaf kids should go voice off and only attend Deaf School as res students. Dhh...

You do realize only a VERY small percentage of dhh kids even GET an oral deaf education right? Even then the problem is that the speech umbrella covers SEVEN of the things you listed. So yes oral deaf educators are CONVINCED that HOH level functioning is THE answer!

Then why do you sound exactly like a previous poster? Why don't you at least give some details about who you are?

Mother of 7 y/o Deaf girl

That is b/c the MAJORITY of kids with hearing loss are oral and mainstreamed. There you have it again. You're implying that Sign INHIBITS progress towards those outcomes

I KNOW. Its so much more complex then just getting the child speech skilled and with HOH level functioning. Honestly I think students who are strongly academic, should be able to have a once a week TOD GROUP time where dhh kids from a particular area come together at a central location. I'm in...

No, of course not. But you DO strongly come across as EXTREMELY contraditory, and you don't even RECONIZE the vibe do you?!?!?!?!

Mother of 7 y/o Deaf girl

Not now, no. You're in a different state now of course. This wasn't about your program that you TAUGHT in! . I'm not interested in confirming details about a program you worked in. However, you said that you had referred a girl to the state res school. You gave identifiying details as to the...

One of my friends grew up TC. She ended up being accepted by YALE. She decided to go to Gally, and she said she went from feeling like the smartest kid in her deaf ed program to feeling like the DUMBEST b/c so many of her Gally classmates were VERY wildly creative and smart in out of the box ways

Hell no, Brown is AMAZING! And of course you didn't turn a stint at a community college in RI into " I went to Brown!"

I LOVE the AVT approach where the "how to deal with social emoitional issues" is straight out of a VERY naive first year special ed teacher's playbook. I did attend an AMAZING hearing camp, but it was an amazing camp in GENRAL.

Mother of 7 y/o Deaf girl

Is there ANY way you can prove you are who you claim to be? You know. I know a guy who was pretending to be more affected then he was for attention. Why I do not know. But he was. I also know people who pretended their kid was deaf or that their partner was ID or whatnot to get attention. I'm...

Mother of 7 y/o Deaf girl

Exactly! Speech skills are good to have. But just b/c a kid functions as HOH it doesn''t mean they're "better educated"....Heck not all hearing kids go to Harvard!

Mother of 7 y/o Deaf girl

Yes you gave enough information about a state residental school that you referred a student to in the past, where it was very obvious where it was located.

Exactly. Bombard the kids with EVERYTHING (with the exception of the monoglot Signers who cannot benefit from speech intervention) Stop making up a controversy where there is NONE. Give the kid speech, sign Cued speech and a variety of social, educational and life experiances. Easy, simple! Most...
