    Cochlear implants, do they help?

IIRC, I went from 32% speech recognition with HA's to 97% speech recognition a cochlear and HA. Similar to you, just getting a louder HA didn't help because I could still "hear" I just couldn't "understand." Now, I not only can understand far more clearly, but I also hear many sounds I've never...

How Do You Wake Up For Work?

I used to have a clock that had an attachment for a vibrator that would shake the bed. When you're awake and try it, it doesn't seem like it will wake you up until you try it while asleep. I literally jumped out of bed the first few times! Now, I wake up on my own out of habit or my wife will...

My journey to hearing with a Cochlear Implant

It's been about a year, but I believe I was at 60% understanding at a level 7? I'll email my audiologist to get the specifics and I do have another appointment coming up soon for a retest. Compared to hearing aids alone, I can hear much better. It's by no means perfect, but I can actually...

    Ci surgery side affects?

How goes it? I remember being in my kitchen and kept hearing this "click, click, click" noise and I asked my wife what that could possibly be and turns out it was the second hand on the clock! Never in my life had I heard it so clearly and dang, it was annoying!

    Very confused please help

I have an implant in one ear and HA in another ear. I have Cochlear and use their bluetooth device they have to stream music/calss to my implant only because it doesn't work with the Phonak HA I have (I have to get a ReSound HA for it to work). For me personally, music quality is worlds better...

    My coclear implant surgery

Late to the party! I had the same experience as you when I first got activated. Watching all the youtube vids of people responding and crying with joy, I was left somewhat disappointed because everything sounded robotic/metallic and I couldn't understand anything. Only advice I can give is...

    Nucleus 7

Very exciting! I have the Nucleus 6 and use the bluetooth BTB-2 thing for calls/streaming music and it works pretty good. Emailed my audiologist to get her opinion and what the upgrade costs would be (not cheap I'm sure). I know for the Kanso it was going to be around $5K.

    My coclear implant surgery

First off, congrats! I replied to you in my thread about the sleeping question you had. I mentioned I waited about two weeks before laying flat but didn't mention it was almost 4 weeks or so before I actually slept on the side I had my implant. I look forward to your updates and hope you feel...

My journey to hearing with a Cochlear Implant

After about 2 weeks of sleeping upright, I finally laid flat and it felt like a lot of fluids rushed into my ear and it was full/had a lot of pressure. My advice would be to sleep in the most upright position you can withstand for the next week or 2. The first few days were hard, but...

My journey to hearing with a Cochlear Implant

Figured I should post an update. Last visit about 2 months ago to the Audiologist, I had a 97% sentence recognition with my implant only! That's a small jump from the 31% speech recognition I had when wearing both hearing aids. Hope everyone has been doing good and if you have any questions...

    New To Ci...what Is Normal?

As others have mentioned, WEAR IT as much as you can because that's the only way to really get better with it. I recommend this either downloading the app to your phone or to your computer to help get used to the sounds: http://angelsound.tigerspeech.com/ As far as the cutting out, I wonder...

    Had My First Implant Yesterday

I think you made a great choice going with AB because from what I learned after getting mine (Cochlear), AB is very good a sound processing. I had 0 issues after my surgery and I believe you'll recover quickly! Also, make sure you sleep upright for the first week or two to keep the swelling...

Getting Rid Of The Jungly Start Up Tune On Your Digital Has.

I'll admit that I actually like hearing it! However, it's nice to know if I ever come across someone who doesn't and I can tell them to look into it.
