I am looking into getting a email for deaf phones of some kind. I am deaf and looking into getting some kind of deaf phones.

I was thinking of Slider side kick phone since many of my friends have it. I love the side kick slider phones too.

I also like some of the black berries as well but they are pretty high in price.

Right now I am on my mother's family plan and I can break off and go into my own plan without paying a fee if I want to.

My thing is that Verizon do charge a bit more than I wanted to pay. But I love their voice plan cause all my families and my hubby has Verizon voice. I am the only deaf person in the family of all sides.

Anyone who have VZ what would you go with. I saw a phone I liked from VZ for 200 dollars.

Any inputs is great.

If you still want to stay put with VerizonWireless, they have plans for the deaf/hoh ( Verizon Wireless Introduces Nationwide Messaging Plans ).

My deaf friend has the LG EnV one (they recently upgraded to LG EnV2) with VerizonWireless, she loves it. She doesn't have much choices with any mobile/wireless providers in her area. She lives in a very rural area in Tennessee.

Yeah, checking the coverage is one of the few things you should do.

Start out by making a list of each phone and the company they come from.

T-Mobile, Sprint, Verizon, etc... Sidekick, Blackberry, etc...

Check the coverage for your area and find out which phones has good coverage.

Check the prices based on what you WANT/NEED. If you don't want or need a calling plan, but prefer an unlimited data plan... find the prices on that.

For instance, Sidekick provides unlimited data (emails, internet, text messages) without the requirement of a calling plan. Some other phones offer unlimited date (with or without text messaging) and also require a calling plan to be included.

I'm using a Sidekick 3. I like it cuz it meets my needs, is cheap, and I don't have to buy a phone plan. :thumb:

At the end, check your list... compare. Find out which suits you best. :)

You should check before you post. (T-mobile) Sidekick is not only one that unlimited date and unlimited text without requirement of a calling plan.

Sprint and ATT do have SAME thing.

Can you give me more specify why you really admire sidekick?? what the specify phone you use for your purpose?

For me, I admire my blackberry curve, I can watch movie clips, video clips! browser loading so fast! Wifi and Instant messagings are so reliable! isn't that cool?

Yes I know Sidekick's keyboard and IM clients are sooo BEST than any devices. But its limited options. its good for beginners and teens. however you really want to get SK with your hearts, go for it! Good luck.. ;)

You referring to me? I never said "only". I already know that there are other providers that provide the same thing. I just didn't know who. That's why I said, "Some other" instead of "All other". :)

Wow thanks for your awesome replies.

Well I know that where I go often and always at has wonderful reception for VZ and we have traveled over 3 hrs and still have great reception and no roaming as well.

I use my cell to speak with my mom, dad and my hubby cause they have VZ and mind you I am the only deaf person too. Also my hubby said think of it in the long run pay more for plans and save money to pay per minutes.

I know a rep we speak to often who can help us if I decide on VZ.

for side kick, i like it, the style, not too big or small to type out and all. I never got play with blackberry to see what it is like as well.

I may stick with VZ cause I can break off my parents plan to go on my own without having to pay a disconnect fee as well, It will help build my credit.

That is the kind of phone I want to get. My question is this. The LG EnV2 is not PDA or SmartPhone , did she use the pda/smartphone plan.

could you ask her about that. My hubby will call this Rep we have the number to. But i have to wait another year before upgrading to a new phone unless she hooks me up and lets me buy the phone I want.

"Some other" for unlimited data and text that what you talk about? Right?

The blackberry is doing well and you can use unlimited data to use ip-relay to contact family if they are okay with it. I am not sure if IP Relay has VCO yet to understand your family member easier.

Other than that disconnect stuff. My wife has problem with device and upgrade with renew contract.

Next time, if you want use unlimited plan with data only... use Sprint.

Yes... the offers are usually the following:

- unlimited data (internet, email, text messages) and calling plan not required
- unlimited data (internet, email, text messages) and calling plan required
- unlimited data (internet, email) and 500 text messages and calling plan required
etc... etc...

I have a friend who has Blackberry. He gets unlimited email and internet, but only 500 text messages a month. That's why he always told his friends to avoid sending him text messages unless it's an emergency.

Yes thats exactly. Unless my hearing family members who don't have email or else but have cellphone and txt msg only. they do sometime send me via test msgs for perosnal emergency. ;)

I believe she is using the plan for cell phone, not PDA/smartphone, but I will ask her this evening to be sure.

The phone she has is like a regular cell phone. It is not pda/smartphone at all either.

I am stopping up there today since we are leaving early to pick up our pyck and the store is right there. So I will be asking them with all kinds of questions, also what is the best phone to get for voice and emails to keep contact.

They have plans where you can get 450 mins voice, unlimited text, email, picture, video etc for like 99 dollars. That is about what I would pay through Tmobile with voice and email. My family have VZ so calling them VZ to VZ is free no charge or mins docked. I would rather pay more on plans and save on loosing minutes and paying over 50 cents a min. That is alot by the time you add it up.

When I was a child, it was a couple of tin cans and a very long piece of string......:giggle:

Well, I'm not worried. I get unlimited text messages. :)

My few friends own BB and it's unlimited DATA and text, no need calling plan required under Sprint and only $29.95 per month.

Oh well Sprint may have special offers for the deaf/hoh but basing on so many stories I had heard about Sprint over the years - I would prefer to stay very far away from the company.

Probably a good thing about Sprint is that the company lacks coverage in my area. :D
