Is Vista better now than it was last year? I've heard there is now a Service Pack for the Vista OS, and that it fixes a lot of the bugs and issues that Vista had. My dad's going to buy a new computer for me (it's on clearance, and he says it's a really powerful computer). I've been very iffy about Vista, and still am. I'll for sure be doing some more research on Vista when I get home later, but right now, if I can get feedback from any of you that use Vista... that'd be great. I really do need a new computer.. my current one is 2 years old, but has 512 MB RAM and 40 GB hard drive... I'd like a computer with more than 1 GB RAM, and the new one has 3 GB RAM and 500 GB hard drive (Hewlett Packard), and my dad has a good idea of what I want in a computer, and of what I use the computer for.

Vista SP1 hasn't fix on some bugs, such as file transfer, except for networking.

I'm sticking with XP.

I'm thinking I will keep my old computer for some stuff, like music/iTunes, some older games. Still works great, is just slow at times (I think it's just too loaded up, I have a lot of crap on it, but right now all my media files are on a USB external hard drive, so that freed up some space on the computer and made it a bit faster). My old computer has only 512 MB RAM, so I can't put some of the newer games on it or newer programs. And the new computer my dad is going to get for me is $400 (it's on clearance at Walmart), he says it's a good computer. I could custom-build a computer on Tigerdirect.com and have XP Home or Pro put on it, but my customizations (with XP, 2 GB RAM, 250-500 GB harddrive) costs more (and it's only for the computer tower), and I don't have too much money I can spend (still waiting to pay for the new hearing aid).

"Old computer", you said? Then, you don't want to put Vista in there.

I've been using Vista ever since it came out. I think it is great! I don't understand why people keep bashing it. I even tried to go back to XP to compare and I didn't even last one day without going back to Vista.

The computer that you are getting should have no problem running Vista. Memory is biggest one that can cause problems. I have 2.5 meg and it runs great so 3 is fine.

There's reason that I'm sticking with XP.
-PC gamer (less hog on CPU and RAM)
-demands on file transfer, I had alot of thing to make transfer the file into different place
-not want get deal with system hog and rather to make my computer so more performance for gaming and media

However, I'm return from iMac to PC again after got Dell XPS, also still some part of Mac user because of MacBook Pro.

Most business are sticking with XP too, not limited to server.

I've received word from several programs that I've been using not to download for Vista Service Pack 2 and XP Service Pack 3. These programs, I need, and will heed the call.

I'll be getting a new computer soon . . . and backing up all my files religiously, just the same.

It is not unusual for a new OS or program to have bugs for serious users (or the "computer literate"). Two years seems to be the acceptable benchmark for many.

I am upset SP1. it is crash for sleep / wokeup mode
I turn disabled sleep/wokeup mode, shit!

I'm not putting vista on the old computer. my dad is getting a new computer for me, which already has vista.

and it's actually a 2 GB RAM computer.. someone beat my dad to the 3 GB.

We bought Vista for my both sons as 2nd computer at few weeks ago. I noticed that Vista is more comfortable and easy than XP. My both sons love vista more than XP.

It's because of you don't care about performance.

 My sons compared vista with PX and said that vista is much better than XP. I check my son's view and to compare vista with PX and agree with them that vista is more easy than PX.

for those who uses internet, messengers, or e-mail, then use basic computer is fine with them - XP or Vista will work just fine.

For those with heavy gamers or movies, or heavy graphic work, then high performance computer is for them. Then XP will suit them.

eh don't worry about it, guys. You can always switch to XP or Vista in whatever the computer you have at anytime. or heck why not have both! my comp's currently on XP-64bits and I use VMWARe to use Ubuntu and XP-32bits (couple of programs like Cisco VPN does not work in 64-bits). I just switched back from Vista. I really miss Vista's Start Search - I use Launchy as a substitute.

i have vista, xp pro and xp mce. both xp pro and xp mce have sp3. i am happy with all of those OSs.

Don't be confused, If I said you don't care about performance, that means you aren't gamer, video edit, file transfer and other need high performance stuff.

Vista is good for daily computer use, such as email, internet and word processing.

Yeah. When I read the requirements on those game boxes, I've noticed that the requirements through Vista is higher than through XP.
