Why it is better off work than stay home gettin SSI check?

I started my job experience as a sweeper in the morning, then in the afternoon, I garden at the landscape arboretum. I was 15.

I worked as a stocker at Wal-mart (better than nothing when I'm stuck in pisspoor town) in high school. Then Target. I'm climbing on my job ladder, so DFM, you have to be patient.

When you look for job, it is really your job to "Sell" yourself. Same idea, if you walk in a store, no one is gonna to force you to buy their product, they need to "sell" their product to you. Same way, you are selling yourself to boss who would be your customer. That is exact how it works, if the customer does not want or need you, you MOVE ON, just same way if sales man at store fails to sell you something, they will look other people to sell.

That is what I did, I sold to several employer, that is because of my attitude, I don't whine, I don't stomp on the floor, I just move on. The best job I have was the one who I tried to move on, they decided to offer me job. I was like whoa! That what my attitude showed them, they liked it and offered me posititon. (I was too positive for them).

I can bet you CAN do it, only yourself can do it, All you need is positive attitude, and if one door shuts, move to the next door!

I am not blaming anyone, I can understand. My point is still remains, if you can and don't like where you are in, at least try to move on.

Hearing people are on it too like if they got a very bad injuries from their jobs such as like broken legs and not walk again or broke back from the neck down, blind, mental issues, single mothers whom can't afford babysitters until their kids are old enough to go to school and work again. Guess what? These employers don't care about your astrological theory, they all care is if you can be productive and they will get you on the payroll.

I am not saying you should be blame about what you posted. All I can say I can't blame the people who are on SSI or SSA or SSDI. I respect them for their reasons and why they are on it. But you did post why deaf and hoh on ssi. Some of will have to say something about that issue. I am just sharing my views on what I see and what I know.

Good point; however, DHB and I have been around and deeply embedded in the deaf community and as such, we know tons of ssi recipients who should not be getting it. I don't complain about it much, tho.

Thank you Tousi, I don't complain at all since some people that are on ssi is better than living on the street u know. We just live in a cold world but we can always help people to help their lives to make it a little brighter. I respect some friends thats are on ssi, ssdi or ssa and still be their friends no matter what. :)

I know, it is the best thing to start right from the bottom, like I am now. Start from McDonald's, now working for the government.
 
Jobs pay more and you can get benefits like health insurance and 401(k) plans.

I prefer work over than getting SSI. But I gets SSDI and my son gets half of what I get also till he turns 18, then cut it off (I think not till he graudate from High School but I will check in that later). So I can work part time like 15 to 20 hrs a week depending how much I'll be earning. And I can earn money which is limit up to 800 or so I don't remember... I cannot believe how much Medicare's prices for monthly! :eek3: I asked to removed because my hubby added me on his health insurance. Medicare is such pain in ass but RX is awesome! I pay only like 1.00 or 3.10 (depend on what RX I needed to get).

Anyway go back to the topic....I agred with DHB...work is way better than getting SSI...getting SSI is good for HS student to College then get a job then kick SSI into the trash.
 
Care to explain?

My thread is about getting job better than sit tight in cheap apartment based on SSI checks, and that their annual increases are way too low.

I have good job, and very happy about it. This proves me something... Starting work as dishwasher at Pizza hut ACTUALLY paid off in long run! This means, that if I didn't work in Pizza Hut, it is very unlikely that I will have job like I have right now.

If some of these people want to remain on SSI/SSDI/SSA or whatever, then let them....If they want to look for a job to make more money, then good for them....It really none of my business to know why they're still on these government programs....

I sure would like to know how they come up with these numbers. I know personally my cost of living has increased way more than 2.3% and that's been consistant for over 5 years now.

This thread is NOT about telling everyone to go work.

This thread is about CONS of not going to work and stay on SSI, whoever wants to stay on SSA, fine but shadda up about small increase with checks, those who whines about it, GET A JOB! That is whole point.

:looking around: Show me where did anyone complain about the small increase in their government checks? or had whine about it?
