Top 10 Reasons to Buy A Bike

1. Save Money.

Cycling is one of the cheapest ways to travel. We will save petrol, tax and the cost of repairing a car. If you live in big cities you will avoid any potential congestion charge. A good bike can be got for just £150, this is a fraction of the cost of buying a car.

2. Keep fit.

Cycling is a great from of exercise. It enables us to build up our aerobic capacity without placing stress on joints and on our heart. Cycling has been proved to improve our circulation, which is good for our heart.

3. Lose weight.

If we drive everywhere and lead a sedentary lifestyle, it will be easy to put on weight, even with a moderate amount of food. However, if we cycle to work and do our shopping, then we will burn more calories. This will help us lose weight, if part of a calorie controlled diet.

4. Good for mood.

Stuck in a traffic jam makes us feel miserable. If we cycle we can dodge in between cars, we will not feel the same constraints of being stuck in a car. Also when we exercise we release certain chemicals that give us an uplifting feeling. Thus, when we arrive at work we will feel better, than if we were driving a car.

5. Can be Quicker.

In many cities with chronic congestion problems cycling to work can be quicker than the bus or driving. The average speed of driving in London is less than 10mph, a cyclist can easily get to their destination quicker than cars. Thus we save both time and money.

6.Good for the environment

There is much concern at the moment about the effects of global warming. By cycling rather than driving we significantly reduce our carbon emissions, this is a very positive step in reducing our carbon emissions. Bikes also help improve the air quality.

7. Bikes don't kill people.

Cyclists are often criticised for bad road manners. However, cyclists are not responsible for the 3,200 people killed on British roads each year. When you drive there is always the potential you could get involved in an accident and kill other people. A bike very rarely causes serious injuries to others.

8. Reduce Congestion.

Cycling is the best way to reduce congestion in cities. They take up less space than cars.

9. Cycling in the rain is good fun.

It is in short doses anyway.

10. Cycling is great fun.

Everyone who cycled as a child has good memories from their first experience riding a bike. A bike represents movement, freedom and enjoyment. Relive the joy of childhood by buying a bike today.

Very true...

I use bicycle a lot...

There're very common for Germans to use bicycle everywhere here in Germany. My both boys are being exposed to use bicycle when they were little boys.

Bicycle is not safe to ride without a helmet.

At early morning or night, it should put lights on. It is difficult to see one, as my brother in law was hit by a car in England, the driver didn't stop perhaps because it is difficult to see him ride a bike?

Some roads here are designer for bicycle ride only which is sensible idea.

I will take my mountain bike out soon or later as spring is with us, lovely day outing for a ride around and fresh air. :)

Here in Washington, DC have a beautiful park, also it has maybe 100 miles length trail for everyone to ride a bike, run, roller skating, skateboarding, walking, running, among others.

I'm thinking about buying SPECIALIZED bike, which it costs about $800.

biking is great, but has lot of safety hazards like cars.

anyeay, theres few hundred miles of bike paths in seattle metro area and they're adding more as we speak, too. seattle is one of the top cities with bicycle popularity, theres also high percentage of bicyclist commuters, too.

I heard there's a lot of rain in Seattle, not so cool to buy the specialized bike I mentioned. I believe Seattle are good for mountain bikers, am I correct?

rains a lot? try somewhere like....south. :P

anyways, yes both mountain bike and road bicyclists still do that in winter months, rain or cloudy weather don't stop them. I've seen them ride bikes in the rain or cold.

Yeah Sequoia, I do ride the bicycle during any weather except snowy and ice a lot. It doesn´t bother me really. I go direct to have a quick shower after ride the bicycle.

Yeah, depend on safety road... If on the traffic, with helmet yes. It´s same with car belt, baby safety belt in the chair, plane, etc.

No excuse... We all have traffic lights. It was happend to me before. A driver claimed that he can´t see me because I wear dark color clothes. My lawyer defend me against his lawyer that we have traffic lights. The court gave my lawyer right and explain that if I walk or ride the bicycle without traffic lights then I must wear bright color to help the drivers to see or put bicycle light. If with traffic lights, then I do not need to wear bright color clothes when I walk and recommend to put lights on bicycle if I ride with bicycle.

I was on the way to work daily with driving car and saw bikers or walkers everyday... Yes I can see them with the help from traffic lights.
