Top ten reasons to move and not to move to Texas

I was born and raised in Abilene, Texas. My opinion: It is worth it! When I moved out of that state, I missed it dearly and want to move back there. :(

There is NO other state like Texas, like Texan Guy say -- there are a lot of things -- a lot of atmosphere -- forested hills, plain, desert and etc. In Dallas there is a lot of deaf people and if I were you, I would go for Dallas! :)

hey texans,

I researched and read that theres too many crazy drivers and fatal accidents in austin, because of cell phone users, reckless driving, lousy road signs, etc. I'm surprised the deaf texans haven't told me that stuff.

Try small towns with less many crazy drivers and fatal accidents. ;)

Bad, big hails hit car window and break them. It is too flat and too hot and humidity in the summer. Afraid of big bugs there. Too many cops there give ticket to anyone even they were 1 mph over the limit. Highest death penatly in national. I am not sure if they have food inspector at restaurant cuz I remember I put catsup on my french fries and there were alot of fly eggs inside catsup. My friend just moved back to Ca from Texas saying not enough job there for him. Oh well.

Good, house cheaper. gas cheaper than here in Calif. Rodeo if u like to watch them. Alot of lakes to fishing.

Weather in South TX

As for me, I would not want to MOVE to Texas. Missouri and Kansas is enuf for me cuz both states get heat from Texas. It's very hot during July, Aug and Sept (averaging 100 to 115 degree for few days) and HUMID!! and STICKY!!! Some year, sometime it had normal summer (80 to 95 degree). If anyone love being a cowboy, then move to Texas!

Catty

I was born and raised in San Antonio. Summer in South TX lasts about eight months. There are a few weeks with temp of 100+, but months of 95-105 are more the norm. Combine that with 70% humidity, and it can kick your a**. You mow your lawn early in the AM or wait until almost dark.

Humidity is another problem the closer you get to the Gulf. Houston floods on a regular basis and I've seen SA flood three times in the last fifteen years. By flooding, I mean enough rain to close the city down for a few days.

Winters in SA aren't bad. It rarely snows and last winter had the worst ice storm that I can remember. Temps can get down into the 20's, but it usually doesn't last long -- 40's are more the norm for AM lows. I've seen folks out in shorts and t-shirts for T'giving, Christmas, and New Years. Try that in Boston or NYC. :D

Texas in July

I found something in my e-mail archives. It's meant to be funny, but there's a lot of truth in it.

======================

You know you are in Texas IN JULY when. . . .

The birds have to use potholders to pull worms out of the ground.

The best parking place is determined by shade instead of distance.

Hot water now comes out of both taps.

You can make sun tea instantly.

You learn that a seat belt buckle makes a pretty good branding iron!

The temperature drops below 95 degrees and you feel a little chilly.

You discover that in July it only takes two fingers to steer your car.

You discover that you can get sunburned through your car window.

You actually burn your hand opening the car door.

You break into a sweat the second you step outside in the morning.

Your biggest bicycle wreck fear is, "What if I get knocked out and end up lying on the pavement and cook to death?"

You realize that asphalt has a liquid state.

The potatoes cook underground, so all you have to do is pull one out and add butter, salt and pepper.

Farmers are feeding their chickens crushed ice to keep them from laying boiled eggs.

The cows are giving evaporated milk.

Ah, what a place to call home.

God Bless Our State of TEXAS !!

Haha, me too! I don't know why so many people flock'n to the states that are warm like Florida, Texas, California, etc. I can't believe they would want to live in a state with all that hot and humid summers

you got it wrong. Southeast are humid, central are medium humid and northwest/southwest are dry.

what about mosquitoes? I hate them.

all 50 states get mosquitoes. That includes alaska. I've seen sh*tloads of mosquitos when I was in alaska long time ago. summer time attract those nasty little bugs.

funny thing one time sweetheart saw a giant mosquito on the wall last year here in washington state. she freaked out and killed it on the spot. it wasn't a mosquito, its a crane fly. it looks like a giant mosquito though. they're harmless, though.
