After my thread was locked due too much argue and debate but few members don't like my title that targeted on kind of breed and can be dangerous or not. I decided to started with different title on general on dogs, not only for big dogs like pitbull, rottweiler, golden retriever or others. Now, I'm talking about safety on general of dogs, such as how can control your children when try to pet on dogs, prevent from bite and tell an stories about dogs are used to threat at you or attack on you or other people.

It's ok to post information about BSL but please don't argue, also interesting to check out and better to proof with link that you found about any dogs are targeted in BSL.

I want to share about the dog that we lost due to the courthouse.

That dog was a Chow Chow and German Sherperd mixed breed, color is white, his name was Shadow. He was very playful but wasn't safe for children, I believe. That time I was about 8, he bite me alot. I remember he pushed me on the floor and he was biting me as much as he can, just because I pull his tail. I was very young that time.

Also our fence was not really keep Shadow in the backyard, someday happened Shadow escaped from our backyard, and killed Japanese Spainel (or Chin, only 10 inches tall), he bite a little dog's hip and that dog died. The owner of that little dog sued my parents for that. So my parents went to the courthouse, and the courthouse gave us two choice, kill Shadow or kick Shadow out of the county (not country, the COUNTY). My parents choose to kick him out of county, I still remember to watch the police come to our house and pick Shadow up.

That dog was very beautiful and guardian, if we could fix the fence properly, that would never happens. I miss that dog and wish that kind of thing never happens. My mom also cried about losing Shadow.

Also another dog (recently died due to cancer) are breed of Beagle, name is Holly, my dog won't stop barking or howling, so we keep her in our fence as much as we can or she will just run away, then howling at other people's yard while they was sleeping.

I recommend what to do with dogs, teach kids to treat dogs right and have good fence that keep dog in. You will not have any problem with dog if you do that.
 
The important thing about raising a dog and a child is to teach the child the importance of respecting the animals.

Dogs cannot be expected to put up with the abuse. Dogs can be trained to be good family pets but again, they can't be expected to put up with the tugging and hitting by the child. It's not to be tolerated at any cost.
 
My parent is used to had golden retriever but they put their dog in sleep after bad seizure and attacked with 2 children but one neighbor did gave a choice to my parent about what happened. One neighbor said that she will sue on us or make us go to vet to put our dog in sleep then they chose to put dog in sleep but my parent was became upset about it. They got golden retriever in 1998 and it was started at peppy then grew into adult as big dog but it was passed away in 2003 after put their dog in sleep at vet office.

We did trained them so hard but some of course aren't sucessful because we don't have deal with seizure but one of child got bad scratch on body after attacked by our dog. My parent had been scolded on their dog so many time but it wasn't work at most time.

Golden retriever isn't too harmful, unlike pitbull does.

Sorry it took me a while to get back to this topic. I ve been busy last week and weekend.

Number 1 that everyone needs to KNOW.

Never approach any dogs without asking the owner for a permission to pet.

If the owner said my dog likes kids or people, do not pet the dog automatically. First, you need to place your palm hand to the dog's nose and let it smell you before you try to pet the dog. You must watch how the dog behaves to you.

If the dog has his ears down and a tail under his rear backs away from you, DON'T pet him. It means he is not comfortable with your presence so he decides to walk away from you. LEAVE him alone.

If a dog has his ears up and a tail UP high, be careful because he is being dominant. He is not being nervous, but a bit too alert.

If a dog relaxes his ears in the between and a tail is in the middle, he is calm and relax. You know it is ok to pet him. If you see the dog changes his behavior from calm to alert, I highly recommond to QUIT petting him.

Number 2.

Never approach any dogs who are on a chain. They are more to be dangerous becauase they did not get to socalize with people or animals.

Number 3.

If you are walking your dog, you should carry an object. I always carry pepper spray, but you need to check your local laws on that. Another useful object to carry is

ASP Friction Loc Black Chrome Baton

It is used to protect yourself from loose dogs. I would use that to protect myself if a dog was coming to attack me or my dog.

Number 4.

Teach your kids never to pet any strange dogs EVER! You need to explain to them that they can get bite by dogs. Show a nasty picture of a wound because you want them to stay away from them.

Number 5
NEVER NEVER NEVER put your face or let your kid's face get close to a strange dog's face. Some dogs do not like when someone tries to hug or snuggle with them too CLOSE. It's ok if this dog is yours, but NEVER your friend's or anyone's dog.

Number 6

If you are being under attack by a loose dog, it starts to attack you. DO DO DO NOT NOT NOT RUN! Stand there STILL and keep your hands up in the air to make yourself look BIGGER than the dog. Many times they will back down and leave. They do not want to approach someone who is a lot bigger than they are. NEVER TURN your back to the dog because turning your back to them is a sign of weakness. Keep face to face this dog, DO NOT back down or try to walk away. Stand to your ground and still. You want to make this dog walk away from you. If this dog refuses to back down from you, find any objects; a key, a rock, or whatever use it to hit the dog. I suggest you to hit the dog's rear first REALLY HARD because it is more likely to let his bite go. It would try to turn around and protect the rear. If it would not let it go, you can use it to hit his face. POKE HIS EYES HARD or even try to suffocate him.

You are more likely to kill this dog rather than a dog tries to kill you.

If you have NOTHING on you, you can offer one of your legs or arms for a bite. I would offer the dog my leg so I can use both of my hands to suffocate the dog.
