Teen Summer Camping without parents

My daughters started go to camping without us to attend their Girl Guide Brownie camping at the age of 9 years old just for the weekend.

My daughters go to Camping with Church Group, since they were 12 with other children, along with Church Supervisor. The last time was 2 weeks ago to South Australia.

All I filled up form for emergency numbers, which doctor, private or not, mobile phone numbers. What foods they are allergy to, and which medicine they take etc

Also they go to School camping starting in Year 7 (11 to 13) in first term for 1 to 2 weeks, to break the ice to get know other new children better. They continue until Year 12. They went to Tasmania by ship one way, and flying home, Sydney, Queensland and Adelaide by coach. In Year 12, they will fly to Ayer Rock.

Yes, we got the letter that we should fill the form where they can call us for emergency, etc.

Update

Danny came home from 2 weeks in Rome, Italy last 7th September (on our 22nd wedding anniversary).

He told us the story how and what he did in Rome, Italy is really wonderful... He never stop to talk about Rome, Italy for all the time for few days since he came home...

He met and made friends with many teenagers between 14 and 18 years old... 15 to 17 years old girls thought he is 17 years old but they don't beleive when he told them that he is really 14 years old... He showed them his ID... He said that that girl, he really like is in Munich. She is soon to be 16 years old but he has no chance to get to know her better. I told him that he is too young and take time to consider himself and his education first. He said that he know... know... He said to us that he like to visit to see her and friends he met in Rome, Italy in Oktoberfestival, Munich soon. My hubby & I have a friend who live in Munich and suggest him that we will drive together to Munich then we will see them...

The photos and DVD will come in November. We looking forward to see the photos and DVD...

He gave us bottle of herbal liquior as gift.

He told me that Rome, Italy is not safe place to live... wow...

We laughed when he told me that the supersivors told them to clean and tidy something but he and his friends agreed with girls that girls do clean and tidy for them but he & boys should do their job as accompany girls to youth disco as their "guardian" to make sure their safety that strangers won't try anything on "their" girls.. He & his friends keep eyes on them... Girls appreciate it very much... I have met them when they were on their way to my area from Munich, Austria, Rome... They are nice people... It took me and other parents over hour stand and let our teenagers finish their farwell, talk... cry... swap addresses, emails, etc. etc...

They agreed together that they will go Greece next year... It look like that Danny don't want to go family holiday with us anymore... I asked Danny if we want to visit America again, would he come along then? He said it should be different month, not on same month as his plan to Greece...

Oh yes, I forget to add more...

Danny gave me many postcards of Rome... It's really interesting city... Danny said that it's really interesting culture to see... but not safe place to live.

Watch out, Italian tried to fiddle with money when they tried to sell something to you... many black markets there... Guide told them to not buy anything from black market case they will pay EUR3,000 penalty fine...

Good for him learning so many different things about warning.. which it's great!
I would love to send my children go explore their own experience understanding... one day near the future.. would be great!

Yes I would recommend you do that... to let them to collect their own experience which make them mature.

I started go camping when I was like 8 or 9 years old...and I had SO MUCH FUN! So it was worth it. I would let our son go to camping with other kids and have some fun and collect a lot of neat and awesome experiences. Of course I'll miss my kid but hey he can send me a post card! We plan send him to Camp Mark 7 when he turns 9 (I think that's the age that allowed to go camping at CM7 but I will check it later). He will enjoy be around CODA kids. If he wanted go hearing camp, fine with me also. But cost *groan*! Expensive but only once a year. It shouldn't hurt us. We will probably start to save it when he turns 8 and save for a year then ready to send him to go camping. That's about 3 hours from here... not too bad.

I am glad that your son had SO much fun and learned a lot of experiences and meet new faces. I bet he cannot wait for next year eh?

Yes it's good experiences for the children to teenagers like that. Alan, my youngest son went his first camping when he was 10 years old and love it... He went week camping in Bamberg last month. He enjoyed himself.
