Politicians ignore needs of deaf | TideSports.com

Dear Editor: Why do politicians not pay attention or ignore the deaf world’s needs in areas like high-income jobs, Social Security improvement, lower prices for deaf devices, the ban on commercial drivers’ licenses for the deaf, improvement of discriminatory laws, use of sign language in homeland security and the need to require sign language in public schools instead of Spanish classes?

Politicians always concentrate on hearing people, not deaf people. Why do politicians never notice that the deaf world suffers enough?

Millions of deaf people quit their jobs because of harassment, unfair treatment, low income and communications problems. It’s time to holler to politicians to look at deaf world’s needy. It’s time to improve the deaf world, not the hearing world.

Why doesn’t Gov. Riley do his job to get better conditions for deaf people? Is he still ignoring the deaf world? What’s wrong with politicians? It’s time to wake up to improving the deaf world’s needs. I hope politicians finally give their attention to improving the deaf world soon.

Why I am not surprised?

Most politicians consider people with disability as "useless" which is a really sad thing.

Do the deaf community know how to speak up, confront and write a letter with complaining to the US or State Senator/Representative? No, WHY??? Who cares to educate the deaf community how to speak up to the politicians? YOU YOU YOU YOU YOU YOU!!!!!! It is you to help others to speak up to the senators and representatives how you feel or why you feel this way. If you do not care about helping others or educating others how to speak up to the politicians; then you are failing to success in the deaf community -- lack of deaf power???? Therefore, they think you are okay??? No, we are NOT okay and NEED A HELP! WE NEED A DEAF POWER!:grouphug:

Well...we need a leader. Unless someone is going to make a stand, in a loud way, no one else will do it. It's all about hopelessness.

We need a deaf "Martin Luther King Jr."

But the odds are not in our favor...we are very small group, and a lot of us aren't being educated in a proper way, so it's hard for most people to write a good letter or to bring up good discussion to the board.

Even as we are speaking, there are people in US fighting for those equality, but nothing happens yet. It's because hearing people have more power than we do. Sucks but true...

We need hearing people to be our ally, then our number will be bigger and we can make changes for real.
