I got the news via email that he died. the email said..

Gilbert Eastman, former professor of Drama at Gallaudet University, passed away late this afternoon of cancer. He was a graduate of American School for the Deaf in Connecticut. Gallaudet has bestowed an honorary degree to him several years ago.


I looked up for information online but couldnt verify that he is really gone?

Anyone know links?? i rather have proof than rumors! anyone know?? please post.. thanks.. :)

If he is really gone then may he rest in peace.. I met him once at Oklahoma school for the deaf Arts Festival in 88. He was a nice gentleman.
 
What? Yes, I remember him that he host show called "Deaf Mosiac". Passed away? I dunno if true.
 
I tried to google too! But none are found. Ummmmm where did you hear that from?

look at my post again.. i said i got the email from my friend but want to know for sure ??? i rather have proof like link to his obituary or something like that. I did look up via Obituaries | Death Notices | Newspaper Obituaries | Online Obituaries | Newspaper Death Notices | Online Death Notices but didnt see.. maybe will show up tomorrow or the next couple of days? or it could be just rumors.. thats why i want to verify by link first. sigh..
 
Oh ok...I guess we have to wait for the proof eh?

My friend just informed me about it. It must be true. I am sure we will find out for sure in the next few days. Maybe I will get more info at my work.
 
wait a min, there is no report of his death.. the blog you showed it written by a person from the blog, not from the news or so.. Need more proof than that!

Exactly!!! thats why I want the obituary instead of rumor.
 
I met Gil only once but he was very interesting person to watch. He was special guest for presentation. For those that haven't seen Deaf Mosiac shows before as it was in 1980's, you can borrow captioned film at DCMP , which is Described Captioned Media Program, click on Browse DCMP catalog and type Deaf Mosiac on search.
 
yeah i got the info from blog too.. the same one you got .. but like i said I rather have proof like obituary to the newspaper then i will believe it. you know rumors always are not accurate so like i said wait n see the next couple of days then we will know if it is true or not. sigh!
 
A Tribute to Gil Eastman

September 12, 1934 - December 2, 2006

Gilbert Eastman, 72, a professor in the Theatre Arts Department from 1957 to 1992 and professor emeritus of the department, and co-host of the award-winning "Deaf Mosaic" TV show from 1985 to 1995, passed away on Saturday, December 2, 2006. He is survived by his wife, June (AAS-'61), two daughters, Alison and Ingrid, four grandchildren, Jessica, Jordan, Daniel, and Emily, and many family, friends, and admirers.

Mr. Eastman, a 1952 graduate of the American School for the Deaf (ASD), West Hartford, Connecticut, received his bachelor’s degree from Gallaudet in 1957 and a MFA in Drama from The Catholic University of America. He was associated with the production of more than 50 plays, as a writer, actor, stage manager, translator, and director. He authored six plays and several books. He was one of the founding members of the National Theatre of the Deaf and taught in the NTD summer programs. He founded the department of Drama at Gallaudet University, which was subsequently renamed as Theatre Arts. Mr. Eastman received an Emmy Award from the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences, Washington, D.C. Chapter, for his work on "Deaf Mosaic" and the Laurent Clerc Award from Gallaudet University in 1993. He also received an honorary doctorate from Gallaudet in 2001and was inducted into ASD's Hall of Fame on October 13, 2006, receiving an award of excellence for leadership, success, and achievements. Mr. Eastman's papers are available in the Gallaudet Library Archives at Manuscripts.

Gallaudet University will host a memorial service for Gilbert Eastman on Friday, April 6, 2007. This date will also kick-off a two-week run of the Theatre Arts Department’s revival of Gil’s play, Sign Me Alice, which was first presented by the Gallaudet University Theatre on April 6, 1973.

During the month of December 2006, Gallaudet’s cable TV will show many of the Deaf Mosaic and other videos in which Gil Eastman appears. Academic Technology is also preparing an online video tribute to this great man, which will be posted at A Tribute to Gil Eastman. Admirers of Gilbert Eastman, both on- and off-campus, can enjoy the first three years of Deaf Mosaic online at Gallaudet University Video Library - A project by Academic Technology to preserve Deaf history and culture through video. The entire Deaf Mosaic series will be online by the end of January. Gallaudet community members can login with their GDOC username and password. Others may register for a free account. If community members have video or photos of Gil Eastman and are willing to share these, please send email to videolibrary@gallaudet.edu with the information.
 
Ahh i had a feeling that the galludet report would come out about this.... so relablity is good to have... when it comes to death like this...

RIP Gil Eastman, keep the Deaf Mosaic Alive in the heavens!
 
Rest in Peace, Gil Eastman. The Gallaudet community and the rest of the deaf community will always remember you of your legacy.

I remember watching "Deaf Mosaic" when it was aired on PBS on Sundays - I've always adored watching it because it was like being able to get the "news" of what was going on in deaf world (that was when pagers and perhaps, the internet was just a baby)and some of their feature story was amazing.

I remembered to used to watch Deaf Mosaic years ago!! It was my fave show.
