I don't need that but I prefer to get BD.

It wouldn't get HD resolution on SDTV but HDTV is much better.

If require for games then I will get one.
 
I've been thinking about getting the HD-DVD add-on for the 360 just for the heck of it, and have a small 15-25 HD-DVD collection. I won't be getting a PS3 or a BR player for a long time, so I'm sure I'l enjoy HD-DVD till then.
I noticed an ad for Disney movies to be on Blu-Ray in the special features section of the Cars DVD. Disney going with BR probably will be a huge asset to Sony and their format.
 
Picked up a HD-DVD player for the 360 today. Apparently, for a limited time, remotes and the King Kong HD-DVD will be included free with the HD-DVD add-on.
Also picked up Dukes of Hazzard and Enter The Dragon(Bruce Lee) on HD-DVD.
 
Let me know how you like it so far? Do you have HDTV with 1080i or 720p?

I have thoughts about getting one. Not sure. Will wait until others will say about it.
 
well 1080p is supposed to be better than 1080i right so since Xbox360 now support 1080p and with a HDTV that strangelove have, then he's golden.
 
Well, it did not go up to 1080p that Xbox 360 supposed to go there. When someone put 1080p for hdtv 1080 and it scrambled.

Hopefully that Microsoft will update again. I dont know if it doesnt work with games that caused scramble. Maybe hd-dvd will pull them up to 1080p. Please have sablescort test that. If he does have tv with 1080p. Does he bought his hdtv recently???? with 1080p????? Mine does support to 1080i and it is 6 years old. I planned to get Sony tv. I am not sure if only sony tv wont support xbox 360 for 1080p. Smart move. If other brands does work with xbox for 1080p. So Sony make that happens to make sony tv to buy playstation 3 instead xbox 360. That's smart move. For me, of course I am disappointed that I still want xbox 360 to work with sony tv. I guess I have to buy other brand like Sambung.
 
I have a Samsung 30 inch wide widescreen tv, I was able to play the HD-DVD version of Dukes Of Hazzard on it, the colors were really noticeably better. I was unable to play it in 1080p though, but was able to in 1080i. I suspect this is due to the cable.
I also have a projector, and I use the VGA cord, and apparently that isn't HD, so I will need to research on connecting the 360 via HD, or get an adapter so I can blow my mind with my projector.
I noticed a reviewer at EBGames.com said that he was pretty sure that Microsoft will redo the 360 and add the HDDVD into it and add a HDMI cord for the 360, and a fan to keep it cool. That would not surprise me.

Mine had dell 26 hdtv only support up to 1080i. Yes, that is what I heard about microsoft will make hdmi with av (xbox own output).

Eh if thats true then I bet alot of Xbox360 owners who bought the "old" version would feel pretty embrassassed.
 
I saw a stock of HD DVD and blu Ray DVD movies on the shelf at Best buy recently. I thought it was ridiclous to have 2 different formats instead of one standard format like we have today, the SD DVD stuff.
 
It's a format war between HD-DVD and Blu-Ray right now. It is similar to Beta vs VHS in the 70's\80's. I suspect Blu-Ray will pull ahead and be the clear-cut winner in a few years, because BR discs can hold a lot of information on them. Quality-wise, BR and HDDVD seem to be the same, but if anyone can clrify that, that'd be swell.
 
I'll wait until the popular format comes out. So we wait and see.
 
What if playstation 3 lost the war for blu-ray format. What a waste for making blu-ray disc in there. Smart move for microsoft to make external. If Hd-dvd lost the war. Microsoft still make other external drive for blu-ray.

So means that playstation 3 will remake whole system with hd-dvd.

Yeah, just wait for few years and see which format will win. I have a feeling that hd-dvd will beat blu-ray discs.

Aye, MS made a good decision to make the external HD-DVD drive opintonal so that it's up to you to get it or not. Most ppl dont have HDTVs so...MS already knew that and decided to make it opintonal and makes it sell best to ppl who already owns a HDTV. But as for Sony, The PS3's blu-ray drive for movies required HDTV. nice going, sony! :roll:

That's not true. For the last time, HDTV and HD-DVD or Blu-ray movies are different. HDTV is for watching tv shows, sports games, or any HD shows. If you want to watch HD-DVD and Blu-ray movies, all you need a HDMI or DVI from a montior or TV that supports. Even thought it doesn have either of these, only HD-dvd can allow u to watch without hdmi or dsvi but reduce the quicty of picture.

For example, I have a 24 inch dell widescreen LCD flat panel that supports up to 1080I but do not support hdtv because doesnt built-in a hdtv tuner . it also has VGA, DVI, compoment, s cable. IF you want to watch HDTV and then buy a hd tuner and insert in in the PC and that monitor is now support HDTV.
 
If there's some kind of device that would turn the SDTV's picture into HD then that would be super.

It's not possible. SDTV has a NSTC resolution of 640x480 or 500 lines and the other problem is that SDTV isn't widescreen or digital signal. SDTV is analog.
