Maine Mayor Wants To Make Names And Addresses Of Welfare Recipients Public

Feel it's just a scare tactic...There are many people in my big city that do abuse their food stamps, selling them for cash to buy drugs. Has been going on for ages....but to publish the names of people on assistance? No...there are many that need it badly and don't abuse the system.

Perhaps this Mayor believes that publishing their names would stop the abuse?...Not gonna happen.

I see people getting turned down now and then when they try to use their EBT card for something it shouldn't buy. Makes me wonder if some places allow it.

What it comes down to is greed. If greed can be controlled (which it never would be controlled) then things could possibly change for better for everyone.

Everything goes up, that's just how inflation works. But if costs go up with out wages (IE the last 20 years) then you have a problem.

Store owners have been arrested in my city for buying food stamps from people....$100 worth for $50...we know it happens...what can we do?...Report it, I'm guessing...if you have the proof.

I bet there are some people that allow this to happen , the same as allowing underage teens to buy booze and smokes . If a store get caught doing this they get fined and lose their booze license. This happen to a few stores in my city . I had clients that got EBT one guy was a wounded vet.
There are a lot elderly people getting EBT , making their names public could made them a target for getting robbed for their EBT cards . The people that abuse system might
not even being using there real name .

Nope, no difference, as anyone can borrow card or escort with the owner of EBT pretend they are the one that makes purchases, then sell them at less value so that the EBT cardholder pocket themselves for something else. I have seen, and EVEN asked and I turned down cuz I don't want to be part of it.

True...had someone ask me if I they gave me $50 in food stamps, would I give them $20....??...said they would go with me to the grocery store. There's all kinds of ruses people make up...If there was a Law on people's conscience?....would that work?...:hmm:
 
Nothing good can come of this... Why shame people? Instead why not lossen the laws that make subsidizing so hard and educate people on how to provide for their self... Similar to reviving she victory gardens...

That doesn't solve the problem either. People who don't want to work and just want to live off the system don't care about becoming self sufficient. No matter what opportunities you give them they will just keep leaching.

Care to prove that every welfare receipts wants free money, leeching them? What percentage?

FYI, be careful what you say, cause it COULD happen to you and you get stuck, would it be fair for people to mock at you when you really tried and wanted but ran into too many barriers? Think about it.
 
Exactly, and actually kinda put you in as if your getting tax refund. Catch 22 really. I don't think it would make much impact on taxpayer monies. The only thing that cost more is these scrutinizes.

Some people do not, but like DHB and RR said care here...
But if you put these people to work on farms or other programs to help cover cost they would change... Or at least be able to provide some cost relief... Some could not do this... But still... Just because someone accepts welfare does not mean they are leeching a system... While some do, why punish the whole?

You misunderstand me. I said "People who don't want to work" Not people who can't for what ever reason or what they do make doesn't cover essentials. I am not against welfare at all I'm only against people who are abusing the system.

Wages are going up! Just not for those that needs it, only those that are already making good money!

The working people are one that is not getting higher wages. But it goes back to what I said, if people get higher pay, then everything else goes up so we are still in square one cause people do not have more money to spend once again.

Read my response to DHB. I'm not against welfare and if you read back I am against making their names public. I don't think anyone who is legitimate should be punished. Only people who are abusers.

Perhaps we should have list of corporations that is collecting welfare post on public... What would you think would happen to those corporations? Bet they don't want that to happen, eh? I think should!
