Former cop sues Kentucky hunting store after accidentally shooting off his own finger

Law or not, it should be common knowledge because the dealer sells firearms, just like any dealer that sells SHOULD know about their products and take responsibility for it. Trying to make deal with buyer, how do the seller know the buyer's ability to handle the product that dealer wants to sell?

The consequences usually hits the liablity.

Irrevelant? You funny! It is, question is who loaded, what if the store personal did not load them? Is it possible that somebody else sneak up and loaded it without anyone knowing it?

Now you said that store personal may be in trouble with ATF and state police? Why? Is it illegal to have loaded firearms on display?

irrelevant. gun safety was not followed. a clear case of negligence on both parties. that's why this guy is no longer a cop. as for this store... it may be in trouble with ATF and state police.

a liability yup. for sure. a big big one.

but this is not just a buyer.... this is a cop..... he should know better. sad that he's no longer a cop.

it's a common knowledge too that all guns should be treated as if it's armed. it's a gun store... not a toy store. I hope there is a news follow-up.
 
That is possibility. Yeah, your right the store personal is responsible ensure that none of displayed firearm is loaded. Its all about liability.

Anyone can be a imposter! When I do business with anyone, I don't trust them 100% Even if they claim they are cop to me, I still have doubts.

whenever there is a firearm discharge and somebody got shot (not like a crime scene where somebody got murdered)... there is always an investigation from a bunch of 3-letter agencies and the premise's legal status will be under review.

that's a standard procedure.

there is a shooting range about 30 min from my home. it's private membership only... owned by former LEO... which is basically the only way to open a gun store or shooting range in NJ. a member was alone at the range and he ignored the range rules. as the result... he shot himself in the leg or foot.

FBI, ATF, state police, etc. came. the range was suspended and under review for several months.

same thing for the range in PA that I go a few times.

if he accidentally shot someone... he will be responsible for that.
 
No, seriously! Im not stretching too far. Why would dealer hand loaded firearm to cop? I would have inspected and oh there ammo in it, I would have removed and hand that firearm to a potential buyer and that buyer is even cop. Bottom line is... LIABILITY

Yeah, some of them. One of the gun ranges I go to rents guns too. Anyone can go to Wal-Mart and buy a box of bullets then go to any store that sells guns, look at a gun, throw a bullet in it and shoot themselves. It's not the ranges problem on renting guns.

I agree , it's really horrible this happen , I was :shock: when I heard it on the news . The gun shop is a very popular place and close to NH so I people go to shot when it too cold outside. NH is very big on guns.

LOL, you're talking to a Virginian. Probably the most gun friendly state in the USA

You can get a Concealed Handgun Permit online by answering 11 simple common sense questions, print the form, take it to the courthouse, pay $50.00 and you're good for 5 years.
Oh, but you do have to have at least have a Hunter Education Certificate.
 
Humm ....but I don't have any guns. They all fell overboard when my canoe turned over. They sank to the bottom of some lake somewhere. I just can't remember where that was. [emoji16]

You have to take a gun safety course in my state, Ma.
 
IMO, the gun shop is at fault because what they sell should be unloaded for safety purpose.
