Damn ! I never found any gold coins when I lived Northern California walking my dog. I only find a 20 dollar bill walking Finlay on the beach in Massauchettes .
If they where stolen I think owner would had came forward by now. It's does not say when the coins where found or how old the containers are , that would give you idea how long they been buried.
you're correct PowerOn, but some dollar notes usually do have serial numbers...(well here in NZ we do).....so in that case it would b different for 'notes' aka paper money
like let's say the earliest roll offs off a 'pattern' deemed to be in circulation in that era...
id say those paper money could well be deemed as valuable , much like 1 st editions of books, and such
