I have a friend who believes his 2006 laptop provides Internet for his ntouch VP and his TiVo, and I'm trying to get him to understand that the laptop isn't strong enough to support both, and he does already have Internet, plus the age of the laptop won't support both, anyways.

I see no reason why it doesn't support older laptops/desktop pc...

1.6 GHz or faster processor
1 GB of RAM for 32-bit Operating Systems;
2 GB of RAM for 64-bit Operating Systems
Microsoft .NET Framework Version 3.5
Adobe Flash Player Version 10 or higher
Internal or External USB web cam
Screen Display Resolution of 800 X 600 or higher

and

Your computer must run Windows XP (32-bit version with Service Pack 3 or higher), Windows Vista (32- or 64-bit version with Service Pack 2 or higher) or Windows 7 (all versions). For the best video quality, Sorenson recommends that you use either Windows Vista or Windows 7.

Sorenson ntouch

Any of the above can work efficiency with ntouch as long as it takes, it can be old and still works. From XP to Win7... XP may not have the best video quality but still can work.

As for tivo, let see

Minimum System Requirements for TiVo Desktop Plus:

Windows XP, Vista, 7, or 8
1 GHz P2 or equivalent processor
512 MB RAM
5 GB free disk space, plus an additional 1 to 3 GB for each hour of Standard Definition (SD) programming you transfer, depending on the quality of the recording.

Certain features of TiVo Desktop Plus may require more computing resources than the basic features. These include

Storage and playback of High Definition (HD) content
Converting TiVo recordings to a portable format
Viewing web content on your TiVo box

If you plan to use these features, we highly recommend the following:

2.2 GHz P4 or equivalent processor
1 GB RAM
5 GB free disk space, plus an additional 5GB for each hour of HD programming you transfer.

TiVo Desktop Plus requires Windows XP with Service Pack 2 or later, Windows Vista, or Windows 7.

TiVo Desktop/Desktop Plus for PC: Installation and Use - TiVo

You would only need a large hard drive space and latest CPU for HD purposes.

It might not be best choice for older pc... but ntouch will still work as long as you have the requirements listed.

He's got s brand-new laptop that better meets his requirements, and yet he's still sticking to the old one. He's in his 40's, so his understanding isn't as great as mine is, but I am hoping that someday he'll realize that the newer laptop will better serve his needs than the old one. Ah, well. Not much I can do, anyways.
