I notice that more hearing people join here than deaf people recently. Right? I know that there's nothing wrong with that but...

Don't count the hit-and-run-I've-got-homework/tests posters.

They don't stick around.

Well me been an asl student. Our teacher encourage us to find deaf people. Some fo the asl teacher alsmot beg for the students to do so. As so that's why many are like omg!!!! I wanan be part of the deaf culture. Well....that's what I have seen in place I live at least. But then I cant say much....since I am hearing x_x Maybe its that...idk.

I'm always learning new skills or trends from others who are deaf and hearing. It does not matter whether they are ASL students or not. I'm a pretty intelligent person and I feel that I can learn something from other people.

We can always learn new things from people. Maybe the deaf can show the hearing world how we handle things, and they can show us something worth their time and resources in return? Only problem is, many of the hearies either don't want anything to do with the deaf or don't have or don't want to make time for us, even though we make time for them every now and then.

Don't worry about people that don't want to spend time with you. I try hard to not worry about those that would prefer to be somewhere else. I can find someone else to spend time with. ASL skill is always preferred, but not needed. I would not judge a whole group on a bad apple or 2.

In Strongs thread "how do you improve your speech" you said you were deaf.......so are you deaf or hearing?

I think she meant she is a deaf student learning ASL? Could be wrong here.

I was deaf as a kid, now I am hearing. I thought I had said I was only deaf as a kid. sorry if I didn't clarify that. x_x

Oh I must have missed that somewhere along the line.

It happens. But how did you do that, though? It's usually the opposite.

There was some obstruction on my ears. Mostly cartilage and some other stuff cant remember what, it was removed and I got my hearing. I still wonder how heck doctors never noticed that giant thing inside my ears. But yeah I was born deaf, I got my hearing like at age 7 or 8? I forgot. But again no one noticed I was deaf.

Now I got it. Yes, cartlidge obstruction can do that, but I'll take your word for it.

That's weird! This is the first time I have heard that a deaf person becomes hearing.

It's fine if they want to interact with the Deaf culture but I really don't include a hearing person as part of my Deaf culture. That's my personal opinion. I have no issues with the hearing really. ( though I tend to be a wee bit more apprehensive ) If they want to interact with me and be friends, that's more than fine, however again... I don't really consider a hearing person who has Deaf friends as part of the culture. :dunno2: They just interact with it.

Also, a lot of the people who jump on here and "want to be part of the Deaf culture" tend to vanish after 4 posts. :dunno2: To each their own, I'm always up for meeting new people and making new friends. :D

I want to make a public service announcement that gets all ASL teachers attention. Attention ASL teachers: Stop telling all your students to come bug us and assist with their stupid surveys. The end. :D
