(CNN) - A shocking case of abuse in Mexico. Police said a woman told them her boyfriend put a padlock on her pants, so she wouldn't be unfaithful to him.

Police said she couldn't take it anymore. The 25-year-old woman, in excruciating pain after being unable to go to the restroom for several hours, went to police.

A padlock prevented her from taking off her blue jeans.

Authorities said the woman lives in Zacatlame, an impoverished, rural community in the Mexican Gulf state of Veracruz.

Police said the woman told them her lover had done this for years and that she was too afraid of him to grab some scissors and cut the jeans.

Police arrested her 40-year-old boyfriend.

The police commander told CNN the man produced a key and admitted locking her up.

"To the surprise of authorities, the woman refused to press charges once the man was detained," Araceli Gonzalez, Executive Director of Equifonia said. "The suspect was still taken into custody on a misdemeanor charge, but released a few hours later. The following day, the suspect signed a statement promising to never again use a padlock against his girlfriend or abuse her in any other way.

Gonzalez is a women rights activist in the state of Veracruz.

She said both the community and authorities failed the woman.

"She was a victim of a crime for twelve years and neither the community nor authorities did anything about it," she said. "On the other hand, reaction was only lukewarm and insufficient when the incident was reported. The handling of this case didn't follow the law. Nobody acted against the aggressor."

State authorities said there's only so much they can do because the woman didn't press charges.

Gonzalez said that attitude gives a green light to abusers.

"It seems like authorities think that women can simply renounce their rights. It's like they're saying ‘if she doesn't recognize the problem, we, as authorities, can't do anything about it,'" she said.

Gonzalez believes her case just one of thousands. Most others, she said, go unreported, with the victims suffering in silence.

Woooooooooooooooooooooow...... First time someone tried that crap with me they'd have a pretty big reality check.
 
Wow!! What if the woman cheated and went out with other guys? Do you think that maybe the guy would have a bolt cutter to cut up the lock? Padlock is not going to stop a cheater. Is there something called bolt cutter out in the area?

What made me upset is that the woman decided to not press charges. I'm sure incidents like this make people wonder why they donate to battered woman organizations or homeless shelters for women. Ok. Donate. Help out and then they go back to get abused again and again. It's ridiculous in a sad way.

EXACTLY! Don't go to police and not press charges! I get pretty frustrated too, but I see it day in and day out. :doh:
 
The guy isn't even married to her, she is free to do what she wants with anyone she wants. Even if they were married, doing what this guy did is still entirely wrong.
 
Read a long time ago, where the Chinese people would insert a razor blade into their daughter's vagina to prevent rapes or having sex before marriage....:shock:

As for the guy who put a chastity lock on his g/f's pants....:shock:...feel he must be a "insecure little dickie" to do that!...:giggle:

The longer a woman is in an abusive relationship the harder it's to get out of it. The abuser has control of all the money , the car , phones and worst of all control of the woman self esteem . The woman said she was too frighten to cut her jeans off and is too frighten of the SOB to press charges
against him. I do not get this part of the law, why can't the cops the press charges for abuse women??

Feel since it wasn't physical abuse, the Cops hands are tied....This is mental abuse....it's a catch-22 situation here....and no amount of talking or therapy can convince some women to get out of relationships/marriage such as this....they are too weak...(some women, not all)...Dunno if she has a family or friends to go to....and probably is so "brain-washed" by this guy, she is terrified of leaving and trying to support herself...

Anyway, I saw one graphic video that showed a husband beheading his wife for having an affair. I think it was in Mexico. Do you wanna see it?

I think it is different in Mexico. It used to be that way here in America...
 
This is sad when a person does this to his/her significant other. Obviously, this man has trust issues. If there is no trust, there cannot be a relationship. Trust is one of many core values that must exist for relationships to blossom.
