What is the story behind the "disabled" vehicle(s)?

#1-----Last month, I saw a grey late 1980s XJ Cherokee 2 door with plow assembly on I 94 in Indiana breaking down. I do remember seeing license plate on it. I cannot remember if that was one of those 2.8 or 4.0 Litre Cherokees. Either way, it had a big "$1700" in white chalkboard. I was wondering what it was doing there. There were no snow on the road. Road was very clear.

I figured that maybe someone bought the truck and tried to drive it home only to see it break down. I don't think anyone who is trying to sell it would drive it down highway with plow assembly. That is why I figured the truck may have been sold and new owner was trying to get it home.

#2----- I saw an original unrestored 1965 Chevy Impala sedan break down on same 94 yestersday. I wondered what was going on. Were they trying to take it on a road for a nice ride only to see it break down? It was pretty rusty, but original.

I hope it does not get junked because 1965 Impala parts are pretty desirable.

Now, I ask you---do you see cars break down on road and wonder what was going on with them? What are your stories??
 
Sometime new owner were trying to get a hold of car trailer which may be hard to find or car dolly if rental store might had been rented out to someone. I know it can be sticky situation. If I were them, I would make sure that the car runs and also have plan "B" by making sure that you have trailer ready. I would go directly to plan "B" just to be safe rather than driving old vehicles that had not been maintained.

I saw a grey 1987-1990 Caprice sedan break down on 94 today. It had temporary license plate and very bad paint job. I cannot help, but to think that if the car body hasn't been cared for, it may haven't be cared for mechanically either. I wonder if buyer took that in consideration. It seemed like the driver didn't know much about cars. I wouldn't help, but wonder why she got a Caprice and not a more reliable mid 1990s vehicle that would have been in the same price range as Caprice.
 
I think you would be pleased to know that there is a mint condition 1977 Impala 4-door, copper, with the original wheel covers for sale at a used car dealership in town. Looks like it just got out of someone's garage after 30 years.

Unfortunately most Caprices in town have been bought by young guys and turned into Donks. You know what Donks are?
 
This is mine when the alternator was bad. Nothing like a ride with the kids on a hot, sunny day and get stuck on a main road under construction during friday evening rush at the Interstate onramp.

BTW, the power windows are broken again and the trunk doesn't open. I'm going to drive it into the ground.

I'm aware of what Donks are, but am not involved in Donks culture. I wonder if Donk dies down, will price of those GM cars die out?

Cool on that 1977 Impala. I bet it was elderly owned. I wonder if it's on craigslist just because I'm curious. I prefer wagons, but it's always cool to see one of them for sale. Cannot help, but wonder what the story is behind that one.
 
Any vehicle that does snow plow will be pretty much loaded with all troubles and break downs. I never had and will NEVER buy vehicle that was previously plowed. My friend bought one and learned the hard lesson. He was able to sell his truck, but at loss.

His truck and my truck were close to same as each other, his truck had snow plow and he removed it. He kept sending his truck to garage for repairs mostly front, including whole steering system, tie rods, issues with engine and transmission, differential had to be repaired, list going on in just 2 years! While mine, I haven't had single issue.

My advise, don't buy these kinds of vehicle, otherwise your gonna regret.

When I was drove around at Chicago and I seem 25" RIM with HUB popped out from the axle and falled on the street road.

Oversize RIMs are very bad for your hub, differential,shaft yoke, transmission, engine, and steering gear. It give you poor performance and poor fuel efficiency. Most gangs are ego problem over safety.
 
If this is the case, how come my truck comes in with 20" rim? These rims were from factory and assembled by factory workers. I am not sure if you could back up your claim. :dunno:

Dude, Caprices are not truck. Serious, you think car and truck are same size for hub, differential,shaft yoke, transmission, engine, and steering gear?
 
Older caprice like ones in 70's with being on frame is tougher than today caprice. I is agree with small cars and unibody ones too.

No matter about frame body and oversize RIM still damage hub, differential,shaft yoke, transmission, engine, and steering gear.

Last month, I was on road and saw a green 1991-1996 Caprice sedan with broken axle shaft on side of road. It was a stock vehicle. Paint was original. It got me to turn my head. I don't recall seeing many green 1991-1996 Caprices, but apparently some of them were factory painted green.
