electric license plate?... WTF..

There are only two people in the world. Those who hack, and those who don't. People who use the hacker's work for personal benefit are not the real threats. Once something is patched, they will have to find a new exploit released by the hackers.

The real concern of this thing are the actual hackers. What will they do with it?
On the positive side they probably make up only ~1% of the entire US population.

hackers? much less than 1%.
people who use the hacker's work? probably ~1%.

insignificant. just plain dang insignificant. the amount of money EZ-Pass lost due to "hackers/exploiters" is insignificant compared to amount of money collected from payers.

the government can easily drastically reduce the number of exploiters by enacting stricter laws.
 
I don't think the gov lose much from ez-pass hackers & exploiters. It's only to gain the money for salary or further production of roads and highways. A person using the exploit is only not paying their share and thus doesn't affect much unless they have accidents and make potholes in the road or something. EZpass is also something that can't be seen by other people in the world.

Here is something just like those hacked road signs. They don't do much than have drivers laughing or angry. But on a serious scale, let's say anonymous takes their operations to hack a certain state or group's license plates for some political reason. That would cost the local agencies some taxpayer $$ to resolve the headaches.

Laws probably don't stop them either, we all know they do it for the fun and thrill or revenge.

if a license plate is hacked - it's a state issue, not local.

Car wont be easy move it into enclosed trailer without a key or remote. Plus won't happen if car in the parallel park area.

Can you shift it to neutral without a key or remote? Think again.


Towing and trailer are not same. BTW.

You need push vehicles with neutral inside the trailer.

True, but if civilian reported to a city agency - city/county cops would still have to respond to drunk driver or kidnapped child.
It's not time-feasible to let state troopers dispatch issue. Maybe it would work for CA, since we have CHP instead of troopers.

I can't change the transmission without key - it is locked to P until you start with key.

Exactly. Thats my point that diehardbiker think vehicles can move to trailer without a key which key was useless. So I was disagreed with him.

Still can't shift without key for old cars like 80's. Never tried on 70's or older.

Towing still do same thing for semi-truck too.

For FWD? Towing from front of vehicles. For RWD? Towing from rear of vehicles.

since this is a license plate issue... the state government and the company will have to deal the exploit.

I'm pretty sure the FBI will probably assist because it's no funny business and they have technical expertise. let's assume that the Governor really wants to pursue this matter. I believe this is how it typically works -

1. Governor gets all hot and angry about hacker pranking the public with Amber Alert or "SUSPENDED"
2. State Police & DMV will investigates the matter together with license plate company and security consultant to find a hacker
3. once a culprit is found, state police and/or local police will arrest him

this is likely to take a couple months to investigate because of court orders and legal process.
