For a long time, I've had problems with my ears. Constant ear infections as a kid and now I've found out that I have constant wax build up. About a month ago I went to the ear doctor because clearly I was having trouble with my hearing. My best friend got sick and tired of whispering secrets to me and me sitting there trying to read her lips because I didn't really catch what she said. So I went to the ear doctor and he checks my ears and unexplainable to me, he pulls out a cotton swab. I don't remember using a cotton swab since the last time I got one of those things stuck in my ear. Pulling the swab out definitely made a difference just for the moment that I got used to hearing at that level. I'm still having this hearing problem, that if someone whispers, talks low, or even talks to me from like another room I don't hear them. It's actually quite annoying, but even more annoying to them when I keep telling people to repeat or speak up. I'm not sure if I'm losing my hearing or if its just wax build up constantly clogging my ears, but I know one thing whispers to me sound like nothing and all I see is lips moving.

Are you or were you using Q-tips?....The doctor pulled out 2 from my son's ears (cotton)....He's hearing, loves music, and complained he was "tone deaf"....

Even my own ENT ear doctor has said...do not use Q-tips in the ear, they are dangerous!...People tend to stick them in too far and can rupture the ear drum...Using DeBrox to clean out ear wax is best (ear drops)...over the counter at drug stores.

Whether or not you are losing your hearing...that would be for the ENT to diagnose....and if the ear wax is excessive, then have your ears cleaned by a Ear doctor every 3-6 months. Excessive ear wax can lead to infection, and infections can lead to hearing loss.

I had a lot of infections when I was little and needed operations. I also have too much wax sometimes, about a year ago I had the nurse at my doctor's office give my the syringe treatment. It was, basically, one of those old Waterpik things you could buy for cleaning your teeth, except it was designed for the ears.

Too much wax came out, and it wasn't nice looking... very dark coloured almost like tar. Yuck! You might consider going back to the doctor if you're having problems again because you might just have waxy ears like me.

And keep the Q-tips outta there! The last time I used one because my ear felt blocked I just blocked it even worse, painfully so. All you're doing is compacting the wax and pushing it further in, not clearing it out.

Wouldn't a "hearing test" determine exactly where you are "hearing wise"?
Whether re occurring ear infections relate to your Hearing loss-can than be determined.
Hopefully you can an accurate determination of your hearing situation.

that totally sucks! I had a wax bulid up when I was at my audi's office last month when she checked out my ears *yep, she knew the earmolds were filled up LOL*

be warned because my ears can get weird every year now :)

I haven't used Q-tips since the cotton swab was taken out and yes I was scheduled to take a hearing test and I didn't go to the appointment. And I know about the Debrox doctor told me about it, not sure I want to use it though. The idea of wax leaking outta my ear kinda disgust me and besides my ears don't really appear all that build up.

If you wanna hear, then you gotta take the advice from the doctor and do it. Got to start trying to see if that work or not. Use a kleenex or maybe a paper towel to keep from leaking from your ear. It is better than nothing, eh? :hmm:

When you get them syringed, they get cleaned out, the nurse puts a little bucket by the side of your head to catch everything. Plus, when you sleep, don't you think a little bit falls out now and then without you knowing?
