Well, My credit card company sent me a pre approval to get a vehicle up to $30,000. Well I cant afford something for that much but can afford something cheaper sooo, talking to the dealership they want me to go through they have several vehicles I can get for under $150 a month ranging from a small trucks to corollas...
I can have the cost of the plates/taxes rolled into the amount so that's covered, but I don't currently have auto insurance since I sold my car last November. My wife wont add me back on ours ( she calls her insurance now) and my current homeowner insurer wants me to start a new policy so that means going in to sign papers, pay an up front amount that I probly don't have right now til next month.... and I really need a vehicle now and have the opportunity to get something decent.

Bad thing is, insurance company cannot give me a quote on insurance without VIN#'s so I need to keep that costs down as well.

When I was shopping for a new car, I just told my ins co the makes & models I was looking at, I think. Just to ball park figure. Maybe it's different for used cars. :hmm:
Of course, each ins co is different too.

Man... save your money and buy a clunker. It's all about need at this point and the need is... point A to point B.

I bought one a few months ago for $400. It doesn't have A/C or anything but it has worked perfectly fine.

Yes, Im looking at a 4x4 S-10 that needs a tranny for $400, in good shape just needs the trans replaced...
The used cars Im looking at are cheap, not looking at anything expensive at all maybe $3-$4ooo max. that includes a warranty for the entire financed period. And it seems all the beaters around here for $500 or less needs a ton of work ( blown motors/no trans,,,ect...)

Yea, beater cars are getting hard to come by. Don't expect the warranty to cover much. My friend bought a 2010 tacoma and paid for an extended warranty that's supposed to cover "everything". When the clutch started slipping at 38,000 miles (he only had it for like 6k) they said that's normal wear and tear and not covered.

My thought is that with all the "stuff" that you have to move with the house project a truck would be more useful. If you could find one in your price range with a "super" cab it should do well for people as well. What I am thinking of is not the full four doors but the ones with a back seat and small door on at least one side.

I have experienced with Extended cab and crew cab, I find crew cab to be much better, and comfortable than extended cab.

yes, I bought a new 2005 Dodge Dakota 4x4 quad cab, 4 door and loved it, the bed was basically too small for anything but it did get some jobs done. Id only need a truck to move and to haul free stuff I find to help with the house other wise most will be delivered by the hardware stores if ordered (drywall...ect...) but the big heavy jobs will be hired ( drywalling...ect...)
But will be nice for camping...lol

I am leaning towards a truck, as Im seriously thinking to sell the house when done and buy a little cabin in the woods and live off the grid. Solar and wood heating, hunt my own food off the land. But that's something for me to ponder later down the road.

Hey, you would even get something cool to haul your stuffs. Maybe a 1960s Chevy Nova wagon!! Now that would be one bad a--- wagon!!!

Cherokees (XJ not grand) are cheap right now, good for camping and reliable. You can get a trailer to haul with.

Well, dealer is very reasonable, I bought my last NEW truck there 05 Dakota there, so Im well liked...lol
They have several vehicles to choose from in my price range and approved so they are ready to sign me on and Im itching to get a car as its been 6 months without one already. I made sure there is a bumper to bumper, including drive train warranty that covers 100% while being financed as Im not making or paying for repairs when Im buying it... after that its cool, as Ill have the extra money they were taking while making payments. I plan to pay it off faster along with the house... but I have to stay in my comfort range.

Like i said 100% warranty does not cover anything that wears out so you could still have expensive repairs. They quoted my friend $800 to replace the clutch.

sorry to say your friend got screwed, I bought 2 new vehicles off the showroom floor 05 Dakota and 01 neon and anything/everything was repaired/replaced when broke didn't matter what it was ( brakes/trans/battery/motor/ect) it was always covered... got to look at the fine print, if it omits anything I wont sign, if it doesn't cover something, it will be changed before I sign....they will kiss azz to make a sale, got to play them at their own game.

His does cover premature wear but they only cover clutches for 30k. I've never seen a warrenty that covered all wear and tear. Most don't cover wear at all. They cover the items for defects but not wearing out.

I should rephrase that. It covers items that wear out from defects but not from wearing out.

I know because I was young and got screwed once, after that I wised up, My 2001 neon I never paid a dime for anything to be replaced ( special deal at the time including lifetime oil changes ) so I never had to pay for anything as long as I owned it ( bought brand new) just that I had a good hour drive to the dealership to have it done free.. if I did anything elsewhere it had to be approved, then submitted after I paid for repairs to get refunded... so instead of the headache I just went to the dealership unless I was out of town. Im itching to see what this dealership has to offer up for me to buy from them. Remember they jack the prices up for commission, I get my moneys worth in assessories/warranty or they come way down on the price to just over costs... I understand commissions but damn they don't need to make a whole years living off one sale.
