(Reuters) - An upstate New York woman pleaded not guilty on Thursday to five counts of child endangerment after other parents complained that she hired female strippers for her son's 16th birthday party.

Judy Viger, 33, of Gansevoort, New York, denied the charges of endangering the welfare of a child at her arraignment in the Town of Moreau Court, according to a court spokesperson. If convicted, she would face up to one year in jail.

Viger was arrested after parents of five teenage partygoers saw Facebook pictures of the scantily clad dancers performing intimate routines at the bash last November 3 at Spare Time Bowling Center in South Glens Falls, New York, about 50 miles north of Albany.

"The parents of the children who attended had no idea that the adult female entertainers would be present and were shocked and stunned when they discovered what had occurred," the Saratoga County district attorney, James A. Murphy, III, said in a statement released at the time of Viger's arrest.

"Pictures of the event and the dancers first surfaced in media accounts of the story once they were posted to one of the attendees' Facebook page," Murphy said.

Viger was accused of hiring adult female entertainers from Tops In Bottoms Entertainment, of Albany, who performed at the birthday party.

Her attorney, Joseph Brennan of Queensbury, New York, did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

If convicted of any or all of the five counts of endangering the welfare of a child, Viger faces a maximum of one year behind bars as any sentence would run concurrently since the counts stem from a single incident, according to a court spokesperson.

Viger was due back in court on April 4.

id say he's lucky to have a cool mum, but with an unlucky stupid laws written by prunes.

Disagree, Grummer..and I'm not neither a purist or a prune....16 is a very vulnerable age....

Your reasoning is lacking thought. A parent is supposed to guide a kid to adulthood. That means setting boundaries. Your idea would carry over to letting the kids get wasted on booze and drugs. Both have been done by irresponsible parents.
Kids can wait to ruin their lives, then the parents can breath freely when they are responsible adults,,,, or not

Grimmer, I am pretty liberal but as a parent, I would like to be informed ahead of time if there will be strippers at a party that my kid attends so I can decide whether to send him or not. Parents have that right to know and make the decision beforehand. These parents were rendered powerless in this situation and I know how it feels. It is not a great feeling to have.

I would be livid to find out that my son went to a party at age 16...and there was alcohol or strippers or any drugs.....worse yet, no chaperones....

Kids these days get by with so much that their parents don't know about...keeping on top of them is a 24/7 job, especially in their pre and teen years when they need so much guidance in life.

How dumb can a parent be, thinking that strippers, or alcohol or drugs makes them "cool" to their teenager?...It's nothing but a prelude to disaster. Setting boundaries for teenagers is hard enough, giving them permission to do these things is very bad parenting.

a stripper like if you ask them to stop at bra's and nickers and just do a pole dance NOT lapdance and then maybe a 'dance' to start of the music dancing then quitely go away. yes nto drug and maybe few alcohol, like a kEG for a whole house  that will do.
the son will LOVE you for a great party, but one thing, INVITES only NO gatecrashers
that bit might be the hardest bit...
oh, hire a farm house while at it... lol

thing is, yes teens do TOO much too quickly its ridiculous even fro a fully grown adults no one thinks of to go 'this far', except if you're a outlaw, or osme kind of bum , trouble maker, or purely a fuckwit. thing is too, my idea is, to be involved, well to chaperone to the ideas of whats a good time, and whats is not an excess, teens today DONT have a CLUE what is EXCESS, except only in bragging points, the bragging points in talks, gossips needs to be somehow slowed down and how?
also the idea of showing how to party is like a late-stage bonding to show why we need to trust so everyone not be harmed...
i dunno- im' just sayn
