Hi All,
I am a hearing person and I have joined your forum to ask a question of a lot of Deaf/HoH people at one time. My wife is in the process of reopening a small historic movie theater. It is time to select assistive devices for the facility and I would like some input from the people who actually use these technologies to best determine where to invest the funds of this small nonprofit.
I am currently looking at a T-Loop for the entire theater with receivers for those who don’t have Tele-Coil compatible Hearing Aids.
In addition I am hoping to offer captions. I have looked at the Rear Window System and the Sony system with glasses. I would appreciate any input from people who have used any of these systems. Please give pros, Cons, and or other suggestions. What type of products would make you want to come to a small town movie theater?
Thanks in advance for your time and input.

Make it accessible so that people can bring their deaf cats on leash to enjoy a movie night out. Cats do need break from cat nips. I think movie nights would be great if you showed cat movies and got cats perked up. Those deaf cats would love CC on big screen. They think that 3D glasses are retarded. I know. I thought that 3D glasses were retarded. If I thought that they were retarded, then cats would think the same.

If you don't want CC on the screen, the digital captioning that fits in the cup holder is a lot better than the RWC.

From your profile pick I would have guessed you for a Deaf Dog guy

Are you saying that captions on the screen would be your first choice? Are you a person that uses captions all the time?
Thanks for taking the time.

I used the Sony captioning glasses when I saw Lincoln. I hated them. The best way to go would be to put the captions on the screen for select showings. I think that is the fairest option for everyone.

Yes I use captions always. I would prefer captions on the screen.

If you don't want that because too many hearing customers, the digital captioning device that fits in a cup holder is vastly preferable to RWC or the glasses.

How many people live in the town/area where your wife's movie theatre is?

That is surprising. I haven't tried it but I have held a cup holder type. Seemed like it would be more distracting. Maybe I will give it a try.

It is only 2400 in town 24,000 in the county. This is the only theater in the county. This is a nonprofit so the idea is to save the structure, serve the community, and try to make it a self supporting entity.

1. caption on screens - yellow font with black background.

2. love sofa

Thanks again for the info.

Since he says it is "reopening a small historic movie theater" I doubt that the sofa seating would fit in with the rest of the decor.

but chances are the old theatres have better seats than moderns ones, but would be expensive to re-cover all with original type of leathers... only 2 things is gonna be narrower than modern ones and it wont have cup holders.
No one uses cup holders watching films anyway.

and its only narrower because it was made in the days before MacDonalds made everyone Fat...

Ditto on open captions on the screen. I've tried the RWC and hate them too because they are real sensitive. I have to sit absolutley still otherwise the mirror gets knocked out of alignment. Not only that the constant looking up and down is annoying.
