Nascar crash at Daytona 500

there's not much they can do anyway. it's better to leave it to professionals than to add themselves to injury list.

That is just an attitude I can't abide by personally. Not only that but these people were too busy filming everything with their phones to help.

which is good because the officials and emergency personnel would learn something new to handle it. and maybe design a safer one for crowds. and probably a porterhouse steak for ambulance chasers to find any wrongdoings

No... it is not good. Like I said... it just isn't in my moral code to step back and start filming. I'm not saying I'll jump into a burning car either. I'd like to think that I WOULD but my point should be illustrated enough.

Safer? No different from watching an airshow. It comes with the show and crashes are what everybody wants to watch (not airplanes of course!). Me? No crashes man. My son and I both ride track so we don't go for the crashes myself. We go for the love of speed.

most of them already started filming before the crash happened.

And your point is?

my point is - I get it and I understand. like I said.... there's nothing you can do if you were there and I don't have any problem with what bystanders were doing there even if they flipped up their phones and started filming.

this is not like where people just gather around to watch an innocent person was getting bullied or beaten around by thugs. not even close.

It doesn't matter if they're getting beat up or burned alive in a car. You put down the phone and you do what you can to help. Even if that means merely shouting encouraging words from a distance.

I've lived life pretty jaded and pessimistic about people but I've certainly lightened up over the last year or so.

then I guess we'll just agree to disagree.

If I were an emergency personnel - I'd prefer them to leave the premise immediately and make room for professionals. do not assist at all unless you know what you're doing. heroism is commendable but in most cases... it did more harm than good.

I live my life always helping out but over time - I've learned when to not help in fubar situations and leave it to professionals.

Well no kidding, Jiro. The "professionals" are not there YET! I would never impede with an EMT or other emergency technician's job. I'll be glad put down my phone so I can apply pressure on that blood spewing out of your leg until they get there.

these people were already yelling for help and doing their best to help.

I guess everybody's got their roles - helper. cameraman. witnessing. etc.

After watching all the videos... no I disagree.

We all are different but we are all still human. It's all good, Jiro! Agreeing to disagree is something I have NO trouble with so I will take you up on your offer for that.

Moving tire can cause further the person’s injury. It’s better to leave it to emergency responder to see if it’s safe to move it. It’s like pulling arrow from your chest.

I still have the ticket to Auto Club Speedway (2008) and it says:
Auto Club Speedway ticket said:
For consideration which Holder acknowledges, Holder expressly agrees:

All ticket sales are final. No money refunded. No exchanges. Blah blah….

The holder of this ticket expressly assumes all risk incident to the event, whether occurring prior to, during or subsequent to the actual event and agrees that all participants, sanctioning bodies, and all employees, agents, officers, and directors of the California Speedway Corporation, its affiliates and subsidiaries are hereby released from any and all claims arising from the event, including claims of negligence.

I know, I copied exactly what it said on the ticket. *shrug*

Almost the same as what it says on our tickets from a couple months ago. Also negligence is pointed out too.

I only see one way those fans have a claim. That wreck happened at the exact spot of a pass through gate. If they can find problems in the past with that gate the might have a case. But I highly doubt it.

They will probably sue and get a settlement anyway. That is just how our country rolls these days. :(
