Jailbreak for iOS 6

I jailbreak my iPhone because well... my career background is in HCI (Human-Computer Interaction). The design must makes sense and it must be functional so my iPhone interface is customized to my liking for speedy efficiency and productivity.

I don't do tethering. I think it's silly. plus it's illegal. I dont' see any point in tethering since free WiFi is everywhere. jailbreaking is legal as long as you didn't get your phone after January 26th.

Today, tethering is evolved into share so allow iPhone to use as hotspot to connect with tablet, handheld game, laptop, etc.

In here, there are very few free WiFi.

Right, I'm not sure if insurance would cover that either... :dunno:

It would be nice if the provider had a way to at least tag phones that had been jail broken so that the warranty could be voided. Seems like that would be easy to do.

They tried but it wasn't easy, but Apple has develop the anti-jailbreaking technology to delay the jailbreaking.

It will not stop the hackers from doing. ;)

you shouldn't have done it in the first place if you don't know how to do it... you're not impressed by it because you don't know how to use it.

Yup, I will happy to help him.

There are some forums that give a nice guide about jailbreaking.

There's no layman's way to do it currently. If someone really wanted to they could find out if it has been jailbroken, the storage on all smartphones use NAND's and function just like computer hard drives, a forensic-skilled tech can see what's been installed previously. But doing that takes time and the results won't always be something uniform, it's usually used by investigators to find photos and videos deleted off phones and that kind of stuff.

significant discount? they make a huge profit from 2-years contracts. I think the average monthly payment for smartphone user is $60-70+ a month.

They rake in at least $1,500+ revenue for every smartphone contract signed.

the "discount" is more of a carrot dangling around in front of people. in other countries.... the phones are expensive but the service is cheap, I believe..... and much faster and better. it even works in subway!

Granted they make a bunch off of the contract. But the phones are still much cheaper than without the contract. There was a homeless woman I was helping in LA last summer. Real sweet lady, and I looked into buying here an iPhone without a contract.(didn't want my name on it) and the AT&T store wanted $800 which was $600 more than with the contract. So that is quite a savings, especially considering the service is cheaper too.

BTW, Mine works on BART except for 2 stations. It even works in the Transbay tunnel surprisingly.

Yeah, that is probably much more expensive than replacing the phone.

What jailbroken apps that you like?

I bet many apps won't support bigger version.

Activator
AndroidLock XT
KillBackground
SBSettings
SBSettingsToggle
Silence Vibrate SBSettings
SMS Timestamps
Zephyr

believe me..... if you install all these... your life will be completely and dramatically changed :)

I don't install these fancy themes thing or something because it hogs up your CPU/memory and drains your battery. I only install functional things that will make my job easier.

There are few apps that won't run on jailbroken iOS, especially Directv is one of them.

Someone developed the patch to patching Directv app to work with jailbroken version.

There are many smart developers around.

leave the game at home :)

you're not really saving much. it's a false illusion.

in America - cheap phone but expensive service
in other countries - expensive phone but cheap service

iPhone is a luxury item. not supposed to be for people tight on money. there are plenty of other smartphones for cheap.

I think just about every place has wifi in TX and CA. Lol. I got a wifi only iPad because I could just tether. I rarely have to tether though. Wifi is everywhere.

I agree.with the last part for sure?

lol, I don't use hotspot to play games, so those are for kids or anyone who camping in forest to use cellular data to play PSN or Xbox Live.

Yes, my college has free WiFi and they are much faster than Verizon LTE, also no bandwidth limit.

I don't visit DD, Starbucks, McDonald's (just take out, eat in drive) and public library. I spent a lot of time on road with my family and visit some family' houses - no WiFi so I use hotspot.

lol, having to jailbreak for SB Settings / Dashboard X are the main reasons why I feel I need to do it. It's natural to android and I still don't know why iOS can't incorporate it naively. Imagining all that time wasted on stock iOS from going to settings.

By philosophies, I disagree with you.

Verizon does have unfair practice - they REQUIRED me to have voice plan to use tethering because they said tethering isn't offered in data/text only - that's specialized for deaf people. The tethering is included by default in all voice/data/text in combined. I fought with Verizon really HARD and they have check system that must passed - take voice plan out will automatically fail the test. Only ONE PLAN that Verizon has 2 GB data/text will pass without voice since all other plans are not. The managers told me that they have no power to override to take voice plan out, so the system is controlled by IT that followed rules set by executives. I don't have unlimited data - I have 2 GB data, when I go over 2 GB so I will have overage - more fair, more money for Verizon like everyone use it.

The voice plan is completely pointless for me because I can't use oral language at all, even can't talk. Verizon is only one service that works with me, so no competitors work for area that where I live in.

Verizon no longer to block the tethering anymore and they didn't update the old plan to include tethering by default. Using tethering is just "don't tell, don't ask" and they aren't going looking for us, except for customers with unlimited data that don't subscribe to tethering. One representative told me that I have look around to bypass the voice plan, but she isn't going help due to unethical practice in business. I don't blame on managers nor representatives - the problem is with high level.

I use jailbreaking for tethering and use apps that don't approved by Apple. Jailbreaking the iOS make feel like more computer that allow me to customize any stuffs that I like - feel like Linux.

I paid iPhone and I paid the service by monthly, since iPhone 5 is personal matter. If you no longer to use service before end of 2 years so what happen - they have early termination fee.

See Android - the rooting is very popular and common, so Google is very open with applications on market.

Rooting and jailbreaking will void the warranty - no doubt. I chose to take a risk and there is option to un-jailbreak by restore to original firmware - not big issue.

I think it's best if you sssssshhhhh and move on. you shouldn't speak openly about something illegal or a breach of contract.

tethering is, in most part, a breach of contract. you and TXGolfer should just agree to disagree and move on.

I personally don't condone it because it puts a burden on infrastructure which drives up the cost for everybody else. and I don't agree with your reasoning - "well hey... Verizon screwed me so I'm gonna screw them back". You are free to not sign up with Verizon if you don't agree with its policy and pricing plan. You are free to write a "class action" complaint to Verizon executives and they WILL listen just like what Netflix and banking companies did by removing their new extra fee policies.

if you're gonna do something that's illegal or a breach of contract.... it's best if you kept quiet about it.

I agree.with the last part for sure?

yes. for ie... used unlocked smartphones from ebay, friend, etc. or Virgin Mobiles (no contract).

I've given away my old phones to anybody who needs it all the time.

not on my iPhone. my iPad does. maybe I should.

I don't like using my iPhone frequently when I'm out. I don't surf the net either unless I'm looking for important info. I'm not one of those people who are glued to their phones all the time in public. I can never understand their addiction/needs to stay connected when out :dunno:

I hate "constant txting" as well when I'm outside. It makes me feel frustrated and bothered. very few friends are allowed to txt me all the time. VERY few. my friends know better to txt me only if it's important.

The tethering isn't illegal if you are subscribed to tethering package but it is obsolete now after Verizon included tethering to all tiered plans by default, but they have issue with system for iPhone because it isn't updated.

There are people talking about unauthorized tethering in public so I could careless about those.
