Hi, I am doing a Masters Thesis at Royal Holloway, University of London and would like to start a conversation about any challenges you have in ‘Proving who you are’, either related to your deafness or otherwise.

This could be anything from getting through border control at the airport or borrowing a book at the library, through to logging on to your bank account on-line. As a prompt – the following are some of the ways you might prove who you are:
- Something you know (PIN, password)
- Something you have (passport, driving licence, Bank cards)
- Something you 'are' (you signature, fingerprint, DND or other Biometrics)

Apologies to those who may feel this is an inappropriate post, but please rest assured that the purpose of the research is in order to address issues identified through forums such as this.

You can either reply to this post, or email me directly at ajonathanm@gmail .com. This is purely for research, I will not use your comments for commercial purposes, and will keep them confidential.

Many thanks in advance

Jonathan Morgan

Castle will be for ferrets and cats. They want to have a lot of space to run around. They don't want to pay taxes.

Derek: in luck- friends of DEAF ferrets, dogs, cats , gorillas and crocodiles,

I'd like to enter the draw for the tax-free castle !

In all seriousness - my keyboard works just the same as for a hearing person, as do the ATM touchpads, and anything else like the Gas/petrol station, library, etc where I have to enter a password/ID etc. If I have to use a phone, I call via IM/IP relay/TTY - never an issue.

Passports and drivers licences all have photo ID - so it's not hard to "prove" I'm me ... I look like my picture, and all my ID matches ... just like a hearing person.

As for "proving" I'm Hoh/Deaf ... the Hearing Aid's a pretty big tip.

Anyone who clearly has average intelligence, yet is too stupid to accept that I'm hoh/Deaf after I tell them I am, is too stupid for me to associate with.

Like Anij my Cochlear Implant is highly visible. Easy to show that I am bilateral DEAF.

Challenges in proving who I am...hmm....

Had a problem for quite a few years when purchasing tobacco products at various local convenience store. They asked for ID as they didn't think I was of age. When I showed them my ID, they could not believe my real age. Nonetheless they sold it to me.

You can file that one in the "otherwise"category.

Doesn't sound like you will have much to write about. I guess you could make it up to be more interesting.

Good luck.

I was challenged several times through credit card companies or my bank over the phone due to the fact that I was using a relay service. They had the nerve to deny me services even if I provided the right answers.

Is that what you were asking for your thesis?

I wear sunglasses all the time, and when going to the bank drive-thru for a withdrawal via the Teller...I was asked to remove my sunglasses so she could get a better look at my face and match it with my DL ....:cool2:

My CI surgeons office took a picture of me on my first appointment. When I check in for an appointment my picture is on their computer. Hope I smiled pretty!!!HAHAHAHA

There are three of us here...me, myself and I....and we all three can prove we were born deaf.
