I am looking to buy a 21" - 29" Flat Panel Television (LED/LCD/Plasma) but it seems every television I look at in the store has such teeny, tiny captioning. I always work with the salesperson to try and customize the captioning to make it bigger but most of the in-store models did not have the option to make "large print" captioning.

Could it be the size of the flat panel television I want to get? I don't want a television over 30" due to space limitations in my apartment. I have a regular 24" television and the captioning is way larger than on all the flat panel televisions I see in the store.

I was wondering if any of you know which brands (RCA, Panasonic, etc.) are better with larger captioning or might have options to make the captioning larger than the default tiny sized captioning I'm seeing in the stores.

Wirelessly posted (Blackberry Bold )

It sounds like they might have the :D captions on - they ARE small ... The traditional captions will work just fine on :D and standard channels and IS a lot bigger.

Id double check this as if the tv is set up to allow it's :D captioning prefs to override the broadcast CC that would explain what you're seeing.

The Sony Bravias are good as are the Samsungs.

My family has a new plasma tv that we put in our big amoire (sorry for mispelling) and its a samsung tv. When the CC is on it seems pretty big to me. So i think samsung tv is probably a good choice!

First of all, do you have the cable or satellite TV service? If not, that means you use an over-the-air antenna and you will be able to use a CC decoder built in a new TV.

However, if you get a cable/satellite TV service, do you have a HD receiver or HD DVR? If yes, do you plan to use HDMI? If yes, you will have to use a CC decoder built in your STB, not TV's CC decoder. That makes a difference. So that means that you'd have to adjust CC settings in your STB. In other words, you would never bother with TV's CC settings. That's what I am doing since I have a HD DVR with HDMI connection. My STB's CC is pretty good.

Hope you get my point.

Oh, I forgot to add one more thing. If you have the cable or satellite TV service but don't have a HD box, I suggest you to replace your current box with HD box since you plan to buy a HDTV. Of course, the HD box rental may cost a little more. It should include a HDMI cable. Hope that makes sense to you.

same me too, I had 46" inch, I seat about 20 feet to HDTV, I can watch movie, fine but I can't see read caption, I move about 6 feet, I can read caption but I got headache that big picture. I wish more larage, I can see far 20 feets, I found computer with DVD, I use VideoLan, SMplayer or KMplayer, they are free, great biggest size and font, i can read it far 20 feets, but I am sad not VLC, SM/KM/player, not support TV Tuner, use save to .WTV, then convert .WTV to MP4, work great large size, we need to FCC make big on HDTV

some TV have options what size/font/color CC you want to have,
you may want to check if yours have that?
