Anyone like books?

Yeah, as you can see, I'm a hardcore bookworm..I was just setting this thread up for booklovers to tell which books they love and hear about other good books.. Think of a "book club" only that it's on the Internet =P
 
:mrgreen: I love to read! Been doing it most of my life. Love books & love our library! Books were my first answer "Where do you want to go today" before the Microsoft computer commercials. :laugh2: I always have a couple of books going, spiritual and fun stuff. Right now I am reading a Star Trek novel + a couple of books by Pema Chödrön on Buddhism & meditation practice. :) I'll look forward to reading titles and authors and making a list to get at our library. Good idea! :dance2:
 
'shades of grey' the big thing at the moment,i see people fighting over it in book shops.as they say ,you have to read bad litrature to appreciate good litrature..
i just discover travelling books....Welcome to BookCrossing it good idea

i got about 4books reading 'A thousand splendid suns'by khaled hosseine.'everything changes'jonathan tropper and 'fifty shades of grey'e.l james that book got hype it not that good

Oh that's cool! My little brothers are Trekkies so I often catch them reading Star Trek novels =P
Currently, I'm reading [A Clockwork Orange] and [1984] (by George Orwell)...so far, good... Though I kinda want to read [the Girl with the Dragon Tattoo] too
..you reading Pema Chödrön? Never heard of that author before.. Is he or she good?

Ah, I've been noticing [50 shades of Grey] a lot in the bookstores here~ wondering if it's good even though I just found out what it's mainly about :shock:
 
I love books. Looking for a new series right now. I am a Tolkien fan! I also like Jane Austen. Lord of The Rings will always be my favorite but I do like Harry Potter. The Sword of Truth series by Terry Goodkind is also one of my favorites.
 
I have been reading since early childhood. It is a way of escape for me. I learned to travel and become a part of the story that I am reading. I have also instilled that same love of reading in my son. My daughter, not so much since she never learned to read until later (9) and it is still a struggle for her. My father was an author and has books in print, but nothing major. Mainly cheap paperbacks. Wars, Westerns, Romantic, Romantic Suspense and Historical Romance.

She is wonderful for anyone interested in living Buddhism. Also, there are others I like, like Sylvia Boorstein, Shunryu Suzuki, Charlotte Joko Beck. If you are interested in spiritual reading, and about meditation, these are good authors, all Buddhist, IMO. :)

I have really been thinking about taking up meditation. Are there any particular books from these authors that you'd suggest? :wave:

Ah awesome! I like Harry Potter and the LOTR series~ I think I have this suggestion for you..maybe the Girl with the Dragon Tattoo trilogy? I heard it's really good..
 
Harry Potter, LOTR, Night World series, Twilight series, the original Hobbit and many, many, many more.
 
an antithesis to the title would add to the social colour spectrum

I LOVE books but i dont read that much

Hard to say. Most of the books give tips, but not a step by step direction. I learned Zen meditation many years ago at the local Zen Center. I didn't have to join or anything, but took classes and was taught their method of sitting meditation, and then I just went there to meditate. Now I just meditate at home. I do like this book and it meant a lot to me in the beginning, "Zen Mind Beginner's Mind" by Shunryu Suzuki. His autobiography is called "Crooked Cucumber."

There are many sources and many forms of meditation practice. I would recommend going to your library and see what you can read there, under meditation, vs. spending $$$ at first. :) The Buddhanet web site has a lot of good info for free. Also, there are numerous YouTube guided meditation videos also that are kind of nice, too.
