People are so dumb how hearing aids work for us deafies. Next time, laugh back b/c she's the idiot.

Sorry that happened to you , Vorsia.

People can misunderstand, and be very rude.

No , I have not , I had something like that happen today at the park. A woman asked whee was my black dog , who was my hearing dog and I told she he dies. I had Marty with me and I told he was not a hearing then the woman said "well you can hear little" GRRR Yeah I can hear a little but it does mean I can the fire alarm when sleeping or understand what being said all the time! Do you think we're talking about the same woman ?? I am sorry that happen to you , we really need to educate the public !

That is because they're not deaf nor do they know anyone who is deaf. They just don't walk a mile in your shoe.

its simply ignorance, and lack of deaf knowledge. Im hearing, and I understand that some deaf people can hear noises but not necessarily language. When my ASL proffessor wears her hearing aides she can hear music but not lyrics, and she can not hear us when we talk ect. if i need to talk to her, I just sign, or if its something i dont know the signs for (im only in ASL 2) then i will ask the interpreter for help, or write on the board.

I am very sorry that happened to you, please know that there ARE some hearing people who understand! And if i was there I would have stood up for you!!, because I think there needs to be more deaf education.

that is how audist think the way about hearing aid or ci user therefore they can hear.

I am sorry you had to endure this. It still amazes me the ignorance people have who WORK IN THE FIELD of hearing loss.

I have worked with an exceptional audiologist before, she clarified it to me as "nuance of sound"

You can hear something, but you may not know what, a voice, a loud car, or you feel the sound, again, it is there, you just do not know where, or what.

This may not apply to everyone, but it by no means indicates you are choosing what you can and cannot "hear"

Just my opinion.

I wish you luck, and yeah, I would go someplace else if that is an option.

People can be such insensitive rude a**hats! And they seem to have no clue how much it hurts, you know? I finally have gotten to the point that I see it for what it is -- it's about *them* -- and not about me. Because they are less than decent human beings, doesn't mean I have to feel less than or hurt by them. It's taken awhile, and I can still get blindsided by how ignorant and rude people can be. But I am learning to educate them to their face, as to the fact that aids/implants are *not* Star Trek and do not mean a person now has fully restored hearing.

So, big hugs to you. Also, I have been known to write a letter of complaint to the powers that be with my health care, when something like this happens. Or complain to the doctor, too. This is *health care* and people there should be better trained and sensitive and respectful than that. It's just not right and I make it my mission to "educate" losers when I can... :naughty:

Good way of describing it.

Good on your part. I've been dealing with the bullshit for so long that I am used to it and expect to be treated like that.

Its so true im going to start a worshop so this dose not happen ,to anyone els

Because they don't know. People just assume they're like glasses- presto; you can see clearly now! I tell people who are genuinely interested that I don't really hear all that well; it helps, but the lip-reading and the Conversational Hangman game I'm constantly playing in my head helps immensely.

I also think those pins that say please face me when you are talking Im deaf...i read lips...is a good idea...

What you just said made me think of something! I wonder what would happen if you pinned one of them on your back?
