Netflix CC-NO, Subtitles-YES

I want to say that since most of you talk about Netflix streaming with CC, it has no CC (Closed Captioned-white texts w/ blackground), PERIOD. Netflix adds its own subtitles (yellow texts w/ no background) to the movies one by one. Even though CC and subtitles are both called captioning, they are not the same at all. CC requires a decoder, subtitles don't.

What I think is that any one of you say CC like that, you are too lazy to type the word "subtitles".

People just are not aware that there is a difference between closed captioning and subtitles. There is no need to call someone lazy for typing CC instead of subtitles.
 
There are many sides to this. Some say Subtitles only for Foreign Films and CC for English-to-English. Some use CC to refer to any subtitles for the deaf. Some say CC is only for TVs with decoder chip, all else is subtitles. Others say CC for anytime the words are optional and subtitles when they are "burned in" like foreign films or Open Captioned (OC).

The subtitles made for the deaf and hard of hearing are referred to as SDH.

CC does not have to be black background with white fonts so it can be any styles. I can set any styles for CC on my HD DVR.

CC and subtitles are close relative but only difference is subtitle doesn't have audio descriptive, however many BD movies labeled SDH (look at Banjo's post) that include subtitle with audio descriptive.

CC and subtitles do not have criteria to set the styles like background and fonts.

Obviously you can't read the topic. You talked about your HD DVR while the topic is related to Netflix. Can you change CC's styles on Netflix streaming? NO! Because it has no CC, shit.

From what I seen that Netflix on iOS, it appear to have excellent drop-shadow on text. On Wii, I find it lack when there is bright area that make difficult to read subtitle. That's so far, I know of.

I am sick and tired of seeing a few topics like "Bluray That HAS CC for netflix" and "Any Way to get CC with BLue Ray/Netflix Streaming?". They should have typed "subtitles" instead of CC. It's time for them to know better than that.
 
look - you have a point about the differences and how its done. Bottom line is who cares - it got words on the screen to read along the script so we can understand the content of said videos.

perhaps we need a more user friendly terms? just captioned?

Not sure if you are aware, but when you play an older DVD with CC on BluRay, CC doesn't show up due to HDMI, assuming you connected the BluRay to the TV via HDMI. Perhaps that's what they are asking in regards to CC and BluRay?

And if you ask anywhere online (outside of AD) "Any way to get subtitles on BlueRay/Netflix??" 99.9% of the time, they will assume foreign subtitles. And if you say English subtitles, they will assume you're watching a foreign movie. So you have to waste so much time explaining to people what you meant and they won't even know the answer. If you say CC, it will, at least, spark those who have SOME deaf technology knowledge. Has that even occurred to you?

I am curious to know what you think about the 3-lines subtitles on Netflix streaming compared to the 2-lines subtitles on DVDs or BDs. Doesn't it look weird to you?

I'm explain about close relative on between CC and subtitles.

There are no criteria on styling and subtitles can be customized as CC does.

If Netflix includes audio descriptive so it is officially labeled as CC or SDH.

If you are not happy with CC on Netflix so time for you to quit membership.

He's just not happy with people calling SDH "CC". They both are technically different (but same purpose), so he wants us to be "aware" that SDH and CC are different things. Apparently, he is promoting awareness by calling everyone lazy.

Oh no, you said CC on Netflix. WRONG! Why can't you just say "subtitles on Netflix" or "SDH on Netflix"? Oh yeah, I will cancel it before the free trial expires next week.
